Just off the eye test, or....?
I ask because his first two years in the league were about the same, production wise.
2021 - 310 snaps for 1.5 sacks and 16 total pressures
2022 - 411 snaps for 2.0 sacks and 16 total pressures
It wasn't until his 3rd season he boosted his pressures (2023 - 375 snaps for 1.5 sacks and 22 total pressures).
Murphy hasn't played a 3rd season yet, so we can just compare their first two years:
Murphy 2023 - 304 snaps for 3.0 sacks and 15 total pressures
Murphy 2024 - 353 snaps for 0 sacks and 20 total pressures
So Murphy fewer snaps played, with 1.5 sack less but 3 total pressures more compared to Sample's first two years.
Also, if you actually are able to remember specific backup players in games from 2-3 years ago to 100% recall if they improved over time or not, I give props to you for having such a good memory.
I don't watch the games that closely or watch reruns to analyze the players that closely, especially those who had little impact on the team those years.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
