I think Zac Taylor tries to protect the players from injury and he knows it's a longer season now made even longer if the team makes the playoffs. The starters don't get enough playing time in preseason and it shows. Now that there are only 3 preseason games maybe they should change the way they get the starters playing time. Maybe one quarter for starters in the first PS game, 2 quarters in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd PS game. You have to weigh the chance of injuries against another slow start. I don't know what the answer is but I do know the games they play in September are just as important as the games they play in December and January.
I think teams round into shape gradually. They hit a stride if they can avoid injury and get hot. I think Zac subscribes to this as well. This idea worked for 2 years. They looked like a juggernaut in 2022 even when Chase was missing games. I think they'd have won a title if they didn't get Baltimore twice in a row and lose half their o-line before the playoffs.
