In my opinion, they are both average at best on a very bad defense.
Nothing. Where did I say I was excited about either? I never said anything of the sort.
But both Stone and Battle graded out well 2 years ago, and got better as the year went on last year.
I just think guard and more pass rush are more important. I had safety next on my list.
I think if we have 1 good guard and one average one, the offense can be truly dominant. Ice games in the 4th instead of being mediocre (15th in pts percdrive last year in the 4th). Complete the job there and reap the rewards. Throw in a legit TE1 or another WR beyond Tee/Chase and we'd be virtually unstoppable.
The D needs help at all 3 levels. All 4 position groups. It is a longer process. Strengthening one without the others won't have the same impact as completing the puzzle on O. But if I have to start somewhere, I want to start up front. Run stop and pass rush. That has more trickle down effect than building the secondary or LBs. If you cannot stop the run or get to the QB, how good your DBs are does not matter a ton.
