At some point, Clowney or Za'Darius Smith need to be approached. They can earmark money this year for an extension, but if things are truly this bad that he's going to go to the press often (rather than his agent) they need to insure themselves.
Sure, we can get to week 1 and hope he signs and is up to full playing condition by week 3 but how broken are things? Why not pursue Clowney or Smith with that money? Either Trey gets the hint that they're more ready for him to sit, or you get some DL help and Trey for like 10 good regular season games when he does get off the tantrum. Talking to these players seems like a win/win to me.
