Trading him for another team's second round selection seems like it'd be a coup at this point. I support your line of thinking. Sometimes they come off as being too soft or desperate to be proven right about their draft picks. Are championship teams built out of guys who punch their coaches, slap women, cry about ownership, etc.? In hindsight they should've immediately cut bait with a lot of those guys.
