Guarantees to a player beyond the first year is really nothing more than security.
A team can offer and sign you to a contract, with no intention of paying you that in later years, i.e., not guaranteed. If you're a player, that's a bit disingenuous. The later guarantees just means you're going to see that money and the team isn't just going to cut you to save bucks.
