A team can offer and sign you to a contract, with no intention of paying you that in later years, i.e., not guaranteed. If you're a player, that's a bit disingenuous. The later guarantees just means you're going to see that money and the team isn't just going to cut you to save bucks.
on flip side, a player signs a contract and then within a year or so wants to renegotiate contract, that also seems a bit disingenuous.
