Oz was great at one time, but the last 5 years he sucked at his job
It was a no-win situation. Franchise quarterbacks do not grow on trees, so even if you don't sign Flacco, you risk several years of mediocrity because it might take that long to find an adequate replacement. And Flacco had just demonstrated that season that he might be developing into what they hoped he'd be.
In hindsight it was definitely the wrong decision, but the alternative might not have been much better.
