I think it is an effort to reinforce the part of the roster that is totally missing from those years with younger guys in their mid 20s with a good amount of NFL experience. Generally from those 17 drafted there would be more than one that was extended.
This right here is what sank the Bengals. The 2014 and 2015 drafts were supposed to have key replacements/upgrades, but they really didn't have any.
2016 draft was pretty good. WJ3, Boyd, Vigil, Billings were solid starters last year. Westerman has played well every opportunity he's seen. Fej has been solid in a backup/ST role. Core has been good on ST, but that's about it. Overall, it's a been a far more productive class than 2014 or 2015.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
