Holic Mock

[Bengalholic]

To start my mock, I have the Bengals making a draft day trade, sending McCarron to the Browns for the #33 pick this year and a conditional 4th or 5th rounder next year.

In the 1st 6 picks of the draft, I have the Jags passing on Fournette to take Allen and the Jets passing to take the QB. Once that happens, the Bengals jump in front of Carolina...swapping their 1st & 3rd for Chargers 1st & 5th.

2   49ers        DE- Solomon Thomas
3   Bears          S- Jamal Adams      
4   Jaguars     DE- Jonathan Allen
5   Titans        CB- Marshon Lattimore
6   Jets           QB- Mitch Trubisky

Rd 1     RB- Leoanrd Fournette   6'0-240   LSU
Fournette seems to be one of those draft picks where there isn't any middle ground with fans. Either you think he's a stud worthy of a top 10 pick, or he's a guy who you'll regret taking because he will never live up to his billing. IMO, Fournette is not only the real deal, but has the potential to take an offense to another level. His physical, violent, ultra-aggressive style is something the Bengals haven't really had since Corey Dillon. 

Rd 2     DT- Malik McDowell   6'6-295   Michigan St.
I've seen a few mocks lately that have McDowell slipping into the 2nd round and I think there's a real chance it could happen. There's no question about his talent and ability to impact a game when he's on. However, there are questions about his worth ethic and passion for the game. McDowell has the talent to play all along the line and could become a tremendous weapon if he stays properly motivated.

Rd 2     DE- Tim Williams   6'3-244   Alabama
A top 10 type talent who's available here because of the off-field issues...with the substance concern being the most glaring. He is definitely a very high risk-high reward player, but I feel he's worth taking a gamble on as a pure pass rush specialist. There's not a player in this draft who's more gifted at causing havoc for the QB. 

Rd 4     WR- Josh Reynolds   6'3-194   Texas A&M
He actually reminds me a bit of Chris Henry and also a little of Marvin Jones. Positions himself well with Cb's and tracks the ball well in the air. Can turn on another gear when needed and has no fear in going after contested balls. Tough, aggressive WR that could give the offense a legit downfield threat.

Rd 4     G- Nico Siragusa   6'4-319  San Diego St.
This guy could end up being an absolute steal, especially at this point in the draft. A powerful guard who can look dominant as a run blocker at times, but still needs work in the pass protection. He still needs technique work, but all the tools are there. If coached up properly, he could potentially be Andre's replacement at RG next year.


Rd 5      C- Tyler Orlosky   6'3-299   West Virgina
While Bodine has shown some improvement, his ceiling - at best - still appears to be only somewhere below average. Orlosky isn't a guy who will step in and start right away, as he still needs some work of his own, but his upside appears to be higher, IMO. He already seems to understand angles and leverage better than Bodine, and he plays with a nastiness. He needs to work on his footwork and be more consistent in pass pro.

Rd 5      CB- Damontae Kazee   5'10-184   San Diego St.
I like the way this guy plays. He's very instinctive and reacts well when the balls in the air. Not ideal as far as size and deep speed, and doesn't offer much in run support, but definitely talented enough to compete for the last CB spot.

Rd 5      K- Zane Gonzalez   6'0-202   Arizona St.
Time to finally address the kicker situation with a tremendous college kicker who should be able to lock down the spot for a few years. 

Rd 6      DE- Keionta Davis   6'3-271   Tennessee-Chattanooga
A DE who's worth stashing on the practice squad for a year or two and developing his talent/skills He's played both end spots and approaches the game with a noticeable fire.

Rd 6      QB- Chad Kelly   6'2-224   Ole Miss
If it weren't for his bouts with immaturity and perception over being a little too cocky, he might go higher. There's no questioning he has an NFL ready arm and potential, but he has to learn to harness the gunslinger mentality, as well as growing up some in terms of his attitude.

Rd 7      OLB- Javancy Jones   6'1-245   Jackson St.
Was an edge rusher in college who supplied consistent pressure and a nose for the ball. He played LB at the Shrine game and looked good, even holding up in coverage.

Rd 7      TE- Bug Howard   6'4-221   North Carolina
An extremely sure handed possession receiver at NC. Because he's a decent blocker, with a frame to add a few more pounds, he could be looking at a transition to TE.

Its a terrible move to draft fornette because he is a very similar player to Hill. Would rather have Mcaffery if we go RB in first or Mixion.

I've never understood the Fournette and Hill comparisons. Honestly, except for playing RB at LSU, they're not much alike at all. Two very different approaches to running the ball.

Yeah, I've seen him projected as high as the top of the 3rd and as low as mid 5th. I have him pegged as one of those guys who will get pushed down the boards due to position runs, which seem to happen to a few players each year. And then, Fuller and Toth going later in the round. Of course, I'm probably going to be dead wrong about that, which is fine. The draft has a way of reminding every year of just how wrong I usually am about these things.  

Like last year, I thought Billings was a for sure 1st rounder, as did most mocks...then he's still available in the 4th.

It's honestly just lazy to compare the two, like you said two completely different running styles.

Fournette is an elite prospect, Hill was a second round draft pick that many debated was even too early. He has shown us that outside of one solid year he has been a disappointment that fumbled away a playoff victory, everyone assigns all the blame to Burfict and A. Jones but we should never have been in that position. Sometimes you have to cut your losses and that should be an easy decision when you are given a chance at an elite replacement.

Like the draft overall, would rather take a TE in round 4 over the OG since I think they like Westerman and even Trey Hopkins. Given Eiferts health issues it would be nice to have another good receiving TE.

I don't like McDowell or Williams at all, but the rest is solid.  I would rather have a burner WR to pair with Fournette, but you could see an elite defense if those players pan out.  I just won't take risks on picks that early.

Nico Siragusa isn't related to Tony.  I do like him in the later rounds, though.  A real high-energy guy with power.

Fournette actually is extremely similar to Jeremy Hill

...'s rookie season.

Hill hasn't been the same runner since he's tried to be a finesse runner in a bruiser's body.

Hill never had the size/speed combination. Also he never was a violent runner, he would get the tough yards but Fournette runs much more like AP where he initiates contact and trys to punish you for attempting to tackle him, that is where the AP comparisons come from.

Not my preference of players, but everyone has their own favorites. Bottom line is this looks plausible.
Fournette should be more AP than Jeremy Hill. Fans should just not immediately say Fournette would be a bust if he didn't produce 1200+ yards with this OL.
McDowell is a very traditional Bengals-mold player, and if what they've been saying actually is true, they could go after Williams as a smaller-than-typically preferred pass rusher.
Depth selections seem reasonable except maybe a more experienced TE/H-B in Round 7 over Bug Howard, but a 7th rounder is very likely not making the 53 anyway and end up on the PS instead, so whatever.

Also, Bodine only seems to know right angles. Either straight up or flat on the grass. There is no in-between. So everyone pretty much should understand angles better than him !

Same size, running behind similar stack line, same style of north south runner. We need a shifty type of back like Mcaffery not another north south runner.

ooooooh I'm torn on this one Holic. High risk - High reward. THe 1st 3 guys I have questions on if they love the game. Could be the best draft ever or like the lost draft year of 2005

Great job man! I think this would be a solid draft. It's not going to make everyone happy, no draft ever will. But I would take this in a heartbeat.

Would love to get Fournette, but I can't see the Bengals trading up.

As far as Orlosky in the 5th, I'm in that mode of "draft a Center...ANY Center." Anything would be better than Bodine.

Love this Mock Holic. Frickin awesome IMHO. Love Fournette, trading up is probably what it would have to take to
get him and unlike other situations i actually like this move. Fournette is special without the off-field problems that
Cook and Mixon have.

McDowell pick is solid, Tim Williams here is a great pick if he can get his shit together, very talented, great Center
pick. Orlosky in the 5th could be a steal. Really like Reynolds.
