Post-Draft Roster in pictures

Here's a look at the Bengals roster as it stands today (with UDFAs from the UDFA thread included).

Green = Quality Starter,
Orange = Backup or Average Starter,
Red = Quality Unknown,
Blue = draft pick,
Grey = UDFA

It's scary how much depth we have in some positions and how much rests on the unknowns at Tackle and Guard.  If it all pans out, this is a championship roster.  If it doesn't, we could be drafting top 10 again next year.   Ninja

Hardy Nickerson?

Isn't he like 50 years old?

With all that depth, the glaring hole from last season is evident and still not addressed. Hopefully, we'll pick up a few more before training camp.

WR:  We have so many!  I think final roster is Green, Ross, Lafell, Boyd, Core, and Malone.

G:  I keep forgetting about Westerman.  Maybe he makes an impact this year.

LB:  Burfict, Minter, Rey, Vigil, Evans, ?? Do we keep more than that?

I love our WR group now, just a bit worried about the oline.

Well yes, remember a couple of years ago when just about every linebacker we had was injured?

True.  The ones I mentioned are locks.  Who else do we keep?

RBs, DBs, and WRs, are taking some of the ST kick coverage positions that LBs used to play.

I am guessing we only carry 5 LBs with Lawson being 9thDL/6thLB

Think he's 46 or 51 or something.

And his son was signed by us as UDFA.

BTW, this DC is highly subjective and flat-out wrong. Especially on offense.

My initial guess for the 53 assuming no significant injuries...
QB: Dalton, McCarron
RB: Bernard, Mixon, Hill, Wilson
TE/H-B: Eifert, Kroft, Uzomah, Hewitt
WR: Green, LaFell, Boyd, Ross, Core, Malone
OT: Ogbuehi, Fisher, Winston
OG: Boling, Smith, Westerman, Johnson
C: Bodine, Dielman
(25)

DE: Dunlap, MJ, Clarke, Willis, Gilberry
DT: Atkins, Billings, Hardison, Glasgow
LB: Burfict, Minter, Vigil, VRey, Evans, Lawson
S: Iloka, Williams, Smith, Fejedelem
CB: Jones, DK, Dennard, WJ3, Shaw, Russell
(25)

K: Elliott
P: Huber
LS: Harris
(3)

Wilson I think is listed at RB because he's explosive with the ball in his hands, but I think he'll also get practice as a slot CB. His main usage will be on ST as a gunner and returner. Plus, by listing him officially on the roster as RB, the Bengals won't have to announce him as an eligible receiver if ever taking snaps on offense.
I think Lawson is labeled as a LB but is used solely as a pass rush specialist.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Of course!  I should point out that the order of the players is very much random beyond last year's starters and the colours are definitely subjective.

Are there any in particular that you think are wrong?

Mainly the oline: that's a bit claustrophobic at the moment, but as well, the ability of the players, is subjective. That's all!

Thanks BK, you are correct. It all hinges on Ogbuehi pretty much.

Happy he is putting the work in, we will see. Otherwise this is a championship roster i agree!

Apart from bottom of the roster positions the offense seems pretty much set.

Defense, on the other hand, is going to be one hell of a battle during camp. There are 13 DLs that could all make a case for a spot, 7 LBs and 7 CBs with either high draft picks invested in them or actual starting experience on other squads. Safety is probably the weakest spot on the team for depth but we are returning all four from last year and they were part of a high ranked Defense, so we can't complain much there.

Big storylines: is this the end for Brandon Thompson? Pat Sims? DeShawn Williams? Will Bene Benwikere earn a spot and if so, who misses out (will Jones gets league punishment or Dennard or Russell get cut?) Who will be our returners and does this mean Alex Erickson will be moved on after the best year for a Bengal returner in who knows how long? Oh, and do we have an OL worthy of the name (but you knew that one already!)?

I'd say there is a god chance Flowers makes it. He hasn't played much, but for some reason the coaches think he has a big upside....

I think our starters will be pretty close to last year aside from the "new and improved offensive line" but I think our backups will look completely different.

This would be my way too early prediction of the 53 man roster.

Injuries will obviously affect it:
[Image: fGcakSP.jpg]

Lawson gives us flex at LB, Smith and Johnson give us flex at guard, Wilson gives us flex at S, RB, ST and Returner. There are multiple flexes between DT and DE.

Wilson, Mixon and Ross are all capable return men, allowing us to cut Erickson and Wilson, Dennard, Fejedelem and Evans allow us to cut Peerman.

That would be heck of an injection of youth and would be both exciting and scary. I'd worry about losing proven DL depth in the form of Sims and Gilberry. Also can't see us taking 11 DBs and cutting Peerman unless Gio is 100% healthy.
