Hospitals Might Mess Up My Stem Cell Treatment

University Hospital threw out my medical records and neglected to tell us that they weren't sending anything and we only found out because I was bugging my family to call. Luckily, my lawyers still had a bunch of records.

So we were just waiting on Children's to mail my medical records, but it has been almost two months when they said it would only take six to eight weeks. I had my mother call them today to find out why we hadn't received them yet and it turns out that, when the people from the University of California in San Francisco called, they made an error in requesting them to mail them to us, but Children's just said the hell with it and didn't bother to tell us.

Hopefully, it's getting all straightened out today and everything will still be good to go, but if I don't get this treatment just because the hospitals were lazy assholes and didn't bother to do any work or make any calls, I might roll into their offices with an oozy.

I'm so mad right now, but even more disappointed.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me and say a prayer or two!

Hopefully they get this straightened out for you in time. I guess if it were a member of their families they would bust their asses to get the info where it needed to be.

Fingers are crossed, and although I don't pray personally, I have family that does, and they're on it for you. I think I can speak for all of us, we're all behind you.

The people in San Francisco said they knew that it would take a while, but it still freaks me out.  

Hopefully, it all gets here soon and it will be a non-issue, and I'm even more hopeful that they've already chosen me and will wait because they know that I'm perfect for this.

What could be a better example of how well it works than having someone that was declared brain dead walk and talk again?

Im a little confused. Did the hospital discard them or have they figured a way to retrieve them? Hospitals are notoriously bad at the retaining, guarding and handling of records. I'm sure your family Dr. or specialist would have a lot of helpful information on you as well. Good luck with this.

Not funny, not cute. Work place violence against medical professionals is at an epidemic level. As you said it was an error by the person requesting them. It is not the hospitals job to make sure people correctly request the documents that is on the University who should know how to do it correctly.

Actually they are the best at the things you mentioned because of more government oversight on it than anywhere else. Records must be kept for six year and the security of those records is basically better than any other personal information you will ever give someone. Hospitals have many patients and expecting records to be kept indefinitely is unreasonable as there are costs associated with the storage of all those records.

University Hospital discarded them because it had been over ten years (or another amount of time) and they aren't required to keep them.

Children's didn't send them because something in the wording of the request was wrong.

Almost everything that is used as comic material nowadays has a serious flip-side that could be taken as serious.  

However, the hospital saying the hell with it and possibly denying me the chance to have a life-altering procedure isn't wrong enough to be mad about?  

And the wording was on the university, but it's on the hospital that they didn't notify either part of the mistake so that it could be modified to make sure that it got done.  My life being changed at such a drastic level is not something that should be taken lightly by them.

Update:  One of my lawyer friends said that, if Children's doesn't have my records sent to me soon, that he'll take legal action and make it all happen (he saw my Facebook update on it because many people have been requesting updates and he sent me a private message).  My mom says she thinks that the records that my lawyer sent has most of what we need, just not everything.

Your deflecting. Nothing about showing up and killing people is funny especially after a work place shooting yesterday. Your first post made it seem as if University did something wrong and carelessly threw things out, but the reality was they complied with federal standards and your request was unreasonable. As to Children's, the wording is very important is my guess. Because of all the rules about releasing records the fact it was worded wrong very well could have prevented them from really doing anything. USF should have known how to properly file these requests on your behalf. The hospitals job isn't to proactively hunt people down who fill paper work out wrong, they'd need a whole department for that, their job is to answer questions when those people follow up. Always follow up on paperwork to ensure it was done correctly.
