The Bengals activated running back Cedric Peerman from the non-football injury list on August 14, but his stay on the active roster was a brief one.
The team announced on Tuesday that Peerman has been placed on injured reserve. Peerman hurt his shoulder while covering a punt during Sunday’s game.
Peerman missed the first 10 games of the 2016 season with a broken forearm before returning to his role as a key part of Cincinnati’s special teams units. They’ll miss him more in that area than in the offensive backfield, so his injury won’t necessarily open the door for another running back to stick on the 53-man roster.
The Bengals also announced that safety Brandon Wilson has been activated from the non-football injury list. Wilson, who had a knee injury, was a sixth-round pick this year and could figure into the mix of players competing for that special teams role.

Finally. Thanks for some good years on ST, but it's time to move on from an old one trick pony.

Tra Carson time?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

He was in college, but he just now got cleared so he's behind this year. Tra Carson is also a ST specialist....
Quote:Strengths
Physical runner who looks to send messages. Uses his lead shoulder as a weapon to dole out punishment. Has a good feel for contact and will lean into tacklers allowing him to maintain balance and continue the run. His feet never stop churning. Has just enough wiggle to avoid an occasional tackler with slight hip turn. Tough in pass protection and is willing to stick his nose in and absorb a lick to keep his quarterback clean. Really good hands. Was outstanding high school basketball player. Has potential to be a third-down back in the pros. Possesses a great deal of value on special teams as a punt protector and cover man.

I thought I saw him holding his arm funny after a special teams play.
Probably time to hang the cleats up. Well...I guess they'll keep Carson now which is good.

This is huge for Tra Carson.

I'm actually even more excited about Carson now that I think him as a potential Jeremy Hill replacement for next year. He has good size to be a goal-line RB, can catch, block, and play ST. He's an ideal 3rd string RB.

A couple of years too late imo, should have been cut a while back up make room for younger guys. I'd be willing to bet ced is back soon in a coaching capacity.

Love yah Peerman, great ST'er.
Getting a little injury prone as of late in his older age.
Thought Brandon Wilson was going to be our future ST's stud anyways. To me this is good news for the team.
It was time to move on. Happy Wilson will play, wanted to see this guy on ST's badly.

All true. Like Carson a lot and he is a better RB than Peerman and is young.
He could definately be that guy for us when Hill leaves.
Mixon, Gio and Carson should be just as good if not better with a year under Mixon's belt.

Sounds good to me as well.
Wish Peerman all the luck in the world in whatever's next but it was time to move on anyways.

Wilson played some RB in college. Could be an emergency 4th RB, offer depth at our banged up safety spot, and be a returner/special teams ace.
Hope he is healthy and has been paying attention.

Sounds like a way to hide both Wilson and Peerman on IR while keeping Carson active. When Hill walks, a RB spot opens up again if Peerman is needed. Wilson gets a year to hang around and develop.

What's the odds they blow their 1 activation again on Peerman... again?
Still have no idea why Will Jack didn't get activated last year to get his feet wet.

Lack of RB depth...
And, if Gio and Hill go down, they probably will activate him again.
There is a lot of things to complain about with the Bengals, but activating Peerman was a choice made due to other injuries. Lewis point blank said so...can't fault that.

Yeah, but Peerman doesn't fix a lack of RB depth. He's a good special teams guy and a terrible RB. If you're looking specifically for a RB due to injuries, there's better guys on the street/on PSs than Peerman.
The last four years, he's rushed 29 times for 75 yards (2.59 YPC). The only year he's had success running the ball was 2012, and I believe most of that was off some long fake punt rushes. He's turning 31 in a month and a half.
So yeah, I wouldn't fault it either if he actually was capable of fixing RB depth.

That was my first thought as well.
Except we do get 2 IR return players this year I believe
