This is absolutely no surprise. Eifert being hurt or missing time is always a matter of when and not if.

#4
How the hell did he hurt his knee? Kneeling on the sidelines watching the Defense play football?
#5
Really sucks he can't stay healthy. I guess we haven't really used him much anyway

At this point with Eifert...

Draft a TE and let him walk.

I'm ready to move away from a TE being one of the top 3 weapons. Powerful offenses like Pittsburgh and Atlanta churn on two good WRs and a very good running game. TE is the 4th/5th option. Mid-2000's Bengals were also the same way.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Heath Miller seemed pretty integral to the Steeler's offense for a decade.

That's a good point.  When Gronk starting going off, people followed suit.  Copy cat league and all.  Thing is, these guys get hurt a lot.  May be time to rethink it.

Clearly the TE has been phased out of Pittsburgh's offense when it comes to top 3 go-to's. It's now Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, and Martavis Bryant. Jesse James is the 4th/5th option.

I'm not sure if the TE has been phased out so much as the Steelers just have a lot of top-tier talent on offense and a 5th round TE.  We have one WR and a 1st round pick TE who was once red zone gold.  Not sure we can just toss the position into the scrap heap as if we have an embarrassment of riches on offense at the moment.

I will say if Eifert can't stay healthy we may as well convince ourselves that TE's aren't very important, though. We did have a healthy TE who could block at one point, but we were convinced that it was impossible to keep him on the same team as a TE on a rookie contract. Wacky.
