2011 : 3-1 against NFC West.....3-1 against AFC South......5-3 on the road.....9-7 record and the # 2 Wild Card team. .....all in spite of Ocho wanting traded and was, and Carson wanting traded and was. The just drafted rookies AJ Green and Andy Dalton went to the Pro Bowl in 2011 and Ocho and Carson didn't. Atkins and Gresham also Pro Bowl. Nugent set a team season record in points scored and Tate set team record in punt return yards.
2012 : 3-1 against NFC East......3-1 against AFC West......6-2 on the road.....3-3 against AFC North, but by beating Steelers in Pittsburg before Christmas, Bengals knocked Steelers out of play-offs and put Bengals in the play-offs. It was a defensive war of a game that looked like could end in a 10 to 10 tie, but Nelson intercepted a pass, Dalton to Green set up game winning kick by kicker brought in to replace injured Nugent. .......Bengals had best second half of a 16 game season record since 1981, winning 7 of last 8 games. .....Bengals set a club record in sacks....Atkins set a club record of sacks by an interior lineman....Andy Dalton joined Dan Marino and Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to throw 20 or more touchdown passes in each of their first two seasons.....Green set a team season record of 9 straight games with a touchdown catch. Huber set team season records in gross and net punt average.....Atkins, Green, Gresham and Whitworth were Pro Bowlers......The Bengals went to the play-offs in back to back season for only the second time in franchise history, having been done in 1981-1982.
2013 : 3-1 against the NFC North......3-1 against AFC East.....2-0 against other AFC divisions.....3-3 in AFC North but finished in 1st place. ....8-0 at home, only done by 1988 Bengals.....The Bengals went to 3 straight play-offs for first time in franchise history.......Andy Dalton became only the 5th starting quarterback in NFL history to reach the play-offs in his first 3 seasons......Dalton set season franchise records in passing yards and touchdown passes......AJ Green receiving yards for first 3 years was the second most by any receiver in NFL history for first 3 years. .....Dalton joined Peyton Manning as the only NFL quarterbacks to top the 3,000 yard mark in each of their first 3 seasons.....Bengals had 2 players in double digits in receiving touchdowns for first time in franchise history, Green and Jones.....Bengals tied franchise record of consecutive games without allowing a sack.....Bengals overcame it's biggest deficit in franchise history, 16 points, coming back to beat Green Bay. ....Green and Burfict were Pro Bowlers.
2014 : 3-0-1 against NFC South.......3-1 against AFC South.....3-3 in AFC North, but win over Denver on Monday Night in week 16 got the Bengals a Wild Card. ...First time in franchise history of 4 straight winning seasons, also 4 straight play-off seasons. .....Green, Huber, Atkins and Dalton were Pro Bowlers......5-2-1 at home, so 13-2-1 at home over last two seasons in regular season....Dalton hasn't missed a start in first 4 seasons with 40-23-1 record setting best winning percentage in franchise history in regular season of any Bengals quarterback. Dalton also scored 5 touchdowns himself, tie of record set by Jack Thompson set in 1979. .....Team set franchise record for consecutive home wins, 10, in second home game of season.
So OK, the loss at home to San Diego in the 2013 play-off season hurt. On the road at Houston in 2011 and 2012 seasons, the young players were doing something just being in the play-offs. The team was way to injured to win at Indy in 2014. The loss at home in the play-offs in 2013 hurts, considering how well the team has been playing at home otherwise. .....Still, before some say Dalton is lousy, Coach Lewis is lousy, and other players and coaches are lousy, you need to read these good things Bengals have done over last 4 seasons. As for the franchise that has gone the longest without a play-off win, Coaches Shula, Coslett and LeBeau never even got us to a play-off. Quarterbacks Klingler, Blake, Smith, Kitna, O'Donnell, Frerotte never led this franchise to a play-off season. How about the 14 straight seasons without a play-off season from 1991 to 2004 ? The Era of The BUNGLES. ....Carson did lead this team to 2 play-off seasons, no play-off wins, in 8 seasons. Dalton has led this team to 4 play-offs in 4 seasons. Coach Lewis has led this team to 6 play-offs in 12 seasons in rebuilding the worst franchise in the NFL and going to the play-offs 50 % of the time. OK, no play-off wins, and losing at home in 2013 season hurt, but lets put the real reason for the no play-off win streak where it mostly belongs, on the Bungles from 1991 to 2004.
The Bengals have did a lot of good things in the last 4 seasons.....Dalton has had 4 great starting seasons for this franchise winning as no other Bengal QB has won before. ...Coach Lewis rebuilt the worst franchise in the NFL from 2003 on and has gone play-offs 50 % of the time, 6 times in 12 years. ......I think we are loaded up in players to get that play-off win, and the best is yet to come for this good young team of players becoming veterans. I will point out also that Ken Anderson led the Bengals to 2 play-offs in his first 4 seasons, with no play-off wins. Boomer Esiason had no play-offs his first 4 seasons. No Bengal quarterback has ever won a play-off game in his first 4 seasons. Dalton has at least led the Bengals to 4 straight play-off seasons and has the best winning percentage of any Bengals QB ever in regular season. Coach Lewis taking the worst franchise in the NFL and going play-offs 50 % of the time is pretty good. This team is loaded with talent and every reason to be excited about 2015. The Jungle IS The Jungle again with 13-2-1 in regular season at home over last 2 seasons. Hats off to the 12th man, the Fans.......12-3-1 against NFC last 4 seasons...12-4 against the AFC divisions Bengals had to play each team, besides AFC North.....ONLY THE BENGALS, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and PACKERS HAVE BEEN IN THE LAST FOUR PLAY-OFFS FROM 2011 THOUGH 2014.

Last year's playoff lose to San Diego hurt, but c'mon...last year's team was absolutely devastated with injuries. At one point we had no starting linebackers, and in the playoff game the best receiver we had left was a 3rd or 4th string running back. It was just a hard luck year. Barring a repeat of injury devastation (knock on wood) I predict a deep run into the playoffs and possibly get that Super Bowl win this year....

but without the injuries and a supposedly stellar defense, the Bengals get outplayed and outcoached against san diego in the playoffs.. at home..a team that was decimated with injuries..a team they had beaten a month earlier..It happens consistently in the playoffs with this team and coaching staff
you best be taking a good look at their schedule for this year before making any bold predictions

I think that is silly. The 2011 team rebuilding was amazing just to be in the play-offs. Pretty much the same in 2012.....Now at home in 2013, that loss hurt.....but last year, all the injuries, we had no chance at Indy.....The home game in 2013 season was the one that hurt......but only Bengals, Broncos, Patriots and Packers have been in the last 4 play-offs, so that is elite company. The Bengals are winning in THE JUNGLE again the last 2 years, 13-2-1
Yes, I want a play-off win also, but please don't tell me the teams is awful because of the play-off losses. OK, the one home loss I agree was a bad loss, not the rebuilding team on the road as a Wild Card in 2011 or 2012, not the everybody injured wild card team limping into Indy. ...No Bengal quarterback has ever won a play-off game in his first 4 years. ....Our play-off wins are coming. ......The 4 straight play-off seasons is something this franchise has never came close to doing before. I call that an improvement.....This franchise went 14 seasons without a play-off season, now that stunk to high heaven. Coach Lewis came in and has removed the label BUNGLES and we are again the Bengals, having 6 play-off seasons in 12 years, which is 50 %.......The team was bad in 2002, just awful, the rebuilding hard, some players didn't work out, some sad injuries, but 4 straight winning seasons has to show the tide has turned, the ship going in the right direction. YES, lets get those play-off wins now that the ship is on course after 14 losing seasons before Coach Lewis came here. We have a QB who really has put up good first 4 years in the NFL numbers, and has the best regular season winning % of any Bengal QB ever. We have an awesome D Line and a good secondary. We have AJ Green and some other talent catching balls and Hill and Gio and a stable of good RB's and a big O Line that can block. We have top talent at kicker and punter. Again, I love that D Line with MJ and Sims back. ......Some only point to the play-off losses, only one of which I think we should have won....Myself, I see a lot to be pumped up and excited about going into 2015.
I'll go as far as to say that I look for Dalton who has had a very good first 4 years in the NFL, to take his game to the higher level as Ken Anderson did. One year, Ken Anderson just matured, it was all there, he was reading the defenses, impossible to defend....and someday it's all going to be second nature to Dalton, he will just read the defenses, it will just be there from experience. I don't see him as a Peyton Manning or Johnny Unitas, but more of a Bart Starr or Len Dawson type. That is fine by me, because that type can win a lot of games also. Hey, Terry Bradshaw struggled early in his career, benched, almost replaced. The time comes with NFL quarterbacks to where it just clicks, they are there, and Dalton who has been very good, I just think he will take his game to the higher level soon. After 68 straight starts, he will read these defenses quick and fast, and then....watch out, Here come the Bengals. Much like a person new to a job and at first it is hard, and after years you can almost do it in your sleep. 68 straight starts of reps, the repetition, I look for the job to soon come even easier to him.

Nah, the difference in the San Diego game was the bengals O-Line was decimated with injuries. At least 4 of the 5 starters should not have even been playing.
You're right that the O-Line dominated the Chargers just a few weeks earlier. But they weren't the same physically.

It's amazing how the same people can have excuses for literally anything negative that happens to this team.
I have this absurd idea that it may have something to do with more than just some bad luck to go a quarter of a century without a postseason win. Call me crazy, but it's just a hunch that I have.
The "well, we weren't supposed to win!" excuse is probably the most obnoxious on the boards. Constantly complaining about injury as if we're the only team ever dealing with them is right behind.

That's a great list with a lot of positives. Really been a fun run especially for fans that were around for all those bad years. Last year with all the injuries I kind of doubted they could get that win but the Chargers game the previous year really hurt. Hopefully they can keep the injuries in check and finally get over the hump this time. Gonna be tough just making the playoffs this year. But we do have the talent.

What have they done right the past 4 seasons? Get into the playoffs.
But once in, they seem to forget what got them there.

that "decimated o line " you speak to did fine the first half of the playoff game..the second half san diego outplayed us and ..once again we were outcoached the second half..
san diego still had a pile of injuries also
quit with the injury excuse..all teams by playoff times have significant players with injuries

how true..I remember the new england offensive line was decimated early last year..but that organization was able to coach, fill te void and win a superbowl

Exactly......Benny was averaging around 5.5 yards a pop in the first half......then we forgot about him.

Lapham said 4 of the 5 guys shouldn't have even been playing. The fact that they gutted it out and were able to hang for a half is a credit to them.
