My Stem Cell Treatment!
#41
(04-25-2018, 09:50 AM)BFritz21 Wrote: Was "talking" with my mom yesterday and I think what we're going to do is find four (or however many) people to go with me in shifts of four (a week each) since most people can't just take off a month to go to Thailand.

Even talking about it with her made it feel more real!

Be careful over there in Bangkok.  They have a lot of hookers and stuff.  I only know this because I read it somewhere, not from surfing porn sites.   Wink

I talked to my family and we’re going to all talk about setting up the trip to get the treatments.

I emailed my brain doctor to make sure that this company and treatment are as safe and legit as it seems.

Also found out that, while I need to be there for 25 days, I’m only getting the stem cell injections on six of those days.

It’s getting more real so please keep praying!

Thank you very much!  Prayers kept me alive and have brought me further than anyone could have ever imagined!

I haven't been nervous about any of it- even at the start with that other trial- but now that it's becoming a reality, the only way to describe part of how I feel- along with all the other emotions- is nervous.

Just the unknown of this and how it could completely make my life do a 180 when I figured I'd be this way forever is mind-blowing.

The thoughts of being physically normal again are unreal.

I found a company in England that does stem cell treatments, so I emailed my doctor and asked a friend to ask her doctor husband if he can get a few opinions from other doctors because I figure that, if I can get the same quality of treatments, it will be much easier to have it all done in London.

PLEASE KEEP THE PRAYERS COMING!

Here's the Facebook post I made today since I heard from my rehab doctor about this:

Quote:Heard back from my doctor at Children's about the stem cell treatments.
I thought that they could just inject stem cells into my skull and then they'd do all the work themselves, but they need to be framed to work with the parts of the brain that they're trying to replace.
He told me that this is all still so new and he actually just went to a meeting recently on this and researchers were trying to build the stem cells in an organized fashion to match the "framework" of the brain and work as if they were mine. I was under the impression that they did that naturally.
If the stem cells were placed in the brain without any framework, they might not be functional and could even cause a cancerous-type cell growth.
This is a bummer, but the fact that they're working on ways to make it so that the stem cells can be organized to work with the brain is promising, and, like I always say, I love my life as-is, so nothing lost.
I just wanted to give everyone an update and say thanks for all the prayers, even if it hasn't worked out like we had hoped yet! This is still new, so I have faith that advances will be made soon!

I'm actually not bummed or anything and I have faith that it could happen in the future.

Life is good, so let's get ready for a HUGE WHO-DEY SEASON!

Well Brad, keep that faith.  They'll get it figured out, and you're still young.  Love your optimism on the whole thing, as long as you're happy now, imagine when they get it perfected.

Right on!

I'm just going to keep on working out so I'm ready for whenever this does get perfected, keep on presenting to schools to make a difference, and just continue to love life and keep on rocking it!

One of the first images I've had when I first started thinking that this was becoming a reality, was starting to run daily and then running a few miles to Ft Mitchell (where we wrecked) and sticking my head inside the police station (police, fire, EMT are obviously all in the same building), which is about a hundred or two hundred yards from the cemetery where we wrecked, each day and just saying hi or "have a good day" or "keep up the good work" just as a way to say thanks for everything they did for me (I'm not sure how many are left from the wreck, but it's the idea).

That's my corny idea.

Things happen for a reason I believe, so maybe it is just not the right time for you.

As Teeth pointed out, absolutely love and applaud the optimism.

I don't think things happen for a reason because that would mean that everything is pre-determined when, in fact, one of God's greatest gifts to us is free will, so that means that we control what happens to us.

I think we are supposed to look for meaning in everything that we can find it in, though.

It is alright to admit that you are bummed.

Even though there is no love lost between us even I was bummed to hear this news.  We could all tell how excited you were about it.  We would all have felt the same way if we were in your position.

BTW try Abien.  Just once.  You have absolutely NOTHING to lose, and there are just too many legitimate stories out there to write this off as a hoax.

Keep being optimistic Brad, i think free will means we control part of what happens to us.The rest is decided by circumstances, good or bad influences, luck.

Will keep rooting for you

Except I'm not bummed.

I love my life and everything about it, which is why people love me and don't treat me like a charity case, regardless of that post you made up where you said "people feel sorry for me, etc. etc."

It was a bummer, obviously, but that doesn't mean I stay bummed for any time at all.

That's why people love me in life and admire me, because I just keep moving forward.

So "reverse" is still broken on your chair?

Way to try and redirect to avoid admitting you were wrong, but the reverse in my wheelchair was never broken, so that makes no sense.
