2018 Class

I don't want to be over negative on Price, but a guy like Pat Elflein who wuz the best rookie Center in the draft last year...didn't grade out that great last season. Hopefully Price learnz the position quicker. But, I don't think it can be a fo shure thing that he'll be good off the bat.

Wow, didn't know we got Rolland Jones, between him Hubbard and Brown we should find atleast a couple
good rotational Ends for our pass rush. Really surprised both him and Chris Worley went undrafted.

Now Brad taking over the KR/PR duties is where he will have to find his footing I think...   I would not expect him to get many defensive snaps unless injuries rack up.

Austin is all about making turnovers the main focus (along with tackling - YAY!!).

Phillips and Bates are turnover machines.

This is the one year that I wish we'd been selected for Hard Knocks. I think the camp battles with the offensive line and defensive backs will be as competitive as we've seen around this team in a longtime.

I think Worley has been on the radar for sometime.
A special teams beast w/ probowl potential. I'm telling everyone that the Bengals did quite well top to bottom. I'm biased because I wanted Ragnow and thought they could've made a move without alot of capital spent to do it. Lets go Price!

Agreed on Worley, dude was a stud at one time, just had an off year, happens.

I wanted Ragnow as well, but i don't think we expected him to be taken by the Lions right ahead of us and even
if he did which happened, Price is honestly just as good and a better run blocker with more upside. Great leader,
just like Ragnow with room to improve. Ragnow is just healthy and more solid right off the bat.

Still great Draft and i completely agree with you. Even the pick i didn't like that much at the time Mark Walton is
really growing on me, dude has mad heart and talent. Look out both Mixon and Gio if they get hurt cause this
dude is as hungry as Shaquem Griffin man. Went through a ton of shit and he loves football.

He's not quite as quick as Gio.  Gio was a 4.5 guy, while Walton is a 4.6 in the 40.  I know that doesn't sound like much, but that tenth makes a difference when people are grabbing and lunging at you.

Walton does run angry, who can blame him. Dude has had one tough go round the block.

Tougher than lots of people have in their lifetime and the guy is only like 22.

He is about as quick, just not as fast as Gio. Walton likes to run angry more than Gio who is more of a Sproles/Barry RB.

Walton's favorite RB is Adrian Peterson.

Obviously he doesn't have the size but he has that mentality and determination.

It will be interesting what he thinks of our starter Mixon who actually reminds me of AP but with better hands.

10 yard split time measures quickness more than 40 yard dash.  Walton's time (1.57) was pretty much identical to Gio's (1.56).  A hundreth of a second is meaningless.

Walton didn't do the short shuttle mor 3 cone drill at the combine.  To me those are important measures for a RB.

In that senario I guess TJ Johnson would be starting in the middle. Probably highly unlikely but could happen.

That one combine time doesn't mean much at all.  It's like looking at a sprinters time at one meet and determining that they'll never run it a bit faster ever again which if true guys like Husein Bolt would have never been able to run faster than the first time he was ever timed running..  Funny thing getting timed running . I was once timed 4/10th of a second slower than the then world record in 100 yards.. I'll never know if the guy with the timer was crazy or if I actually did it, but I was 15 and started smoking that summer and was never any quicker  ... I'll never know how fast I really was, but I was the fastest guy on the team . My ego wants to think he was dead on and I did run that fast, but then there's that reality thing always kicking me in the nuts, saying "C'mon man..."
I'm sticking with my ego and you can't stop me.  LOL
I will say the fastest time I ever ran was with some goddamned big ass dog chasing me and I outran the damned thing.. To my knowledge there was nobody standing in the bushes with a stop watch.  lol

Here's the thing, they're football players and not Olympic sprinters.  Although, I believe a lot of these players train a track style workout, in preparation for the 40 at the combine.  There's a good reason that players typically use the combine time as their "stated speed" throughout the duration of their career.  The reason?  They tend to get slower.  Why?  Once they are in the pros they don't get that 24/7/365 oversight by the trainers, dieticians and strength coaches that they had in college.  They now have money, by and large they eat what they want, and train however they want during the offseason.

So yeah, a 1/10 of a second on a combine time is noteworthy.

NFL players are in better shape and eat better than when they were in college.  In college they are just part time athletes.  In the NFL it becomes a full time job.  That is why you hear about so many prospects not returning to school just so they can train full time for the combine.

However there are a lot of guys who do "track training" leading up to the combine.  This is designed just for speed and not allof the other aspects of playing in the NFL.  So guys will drop weight for the combine just to increase their forty time and then put the bulk back on to actually play the games.

The pick in the fourth was definately a head scratcher for me because I thought that was the time to grab that extra offensive lineman. Its debatable with whats on the current roster but in hindsight was there an option better at that point then whats currently on the roster already. The pick has grown on me now and I see a very explosive player who can help this offense injuries or not. The guy just wasn't a player on alot of people's radar. Me included

Why was drafting Walton a head scratcher?

A 4th Round offensive lineman likely won't play for 3 years if ever. Plus, 10 lineman make a roster. How many do we have right now? With the run on lineman, you might be taking the 60th ranked lineman.

Now, with Walton, you get the 7th or 8th ranked RB. Plus, you need 2 RBs in the NFL. If Bernard or Mixon get injured, Walton can play.

And Walton is a good special teams player which you need. So from Year 1 you'll get contribution from him.

His upside is high. Had he not had a severe ankle injury, he likely was a 2nd Round pick. Guy could eventually start one day too if Mixon for some reason doesn't produce.
