Carl Lawson: "I can be ridiculously good"
#21
Lawson, Dunlap, and Atkins is the reason why I think we can win the Superbowl this season. There might be trios equal to them but I don't think there any better. Then you add willis, MJ, Hubbard, and Brown to that mix. Holy crap that's a good set of pass rushers.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Yes, gained about 10 pounds of muscle while not losing any speed.

Sure is, man i hope we atleast get Geno extended before the season then we can get Dunlap after the season extended.

Gotta keep these 3 together as the 3 headed monster along with our rotation...

We have needed a pass rusher like Lawson for many years. I didn't like how we passed on these shorter guys
cuz we liked length. In the end getting to the QB is what matters and getting the dang job done. I think Von Miller
opened a lot of people's eyes. Then comes Khalil Mack and such.

I think Lawson could be right there with those guys.

Have to give Paulie G some cred for the Law pick i think.

I'm sure he's salivating at the thought of grabbing him in free-agency to pair with Mack.

Yep, with Willis and Lawson both getting reps at RDE, all we really need is for Billings to emerge as the NT that we all thought he is going to be.  Combine those new generation guys with Carlos and Geno?  That is a formidable front four to contend with, for sure.

This thought really begs a question. If Carl Lawson and Jordan Willis both have a good camp and preseason, is there still room for Michael Johnson on this roster?

Yup,

I have nothing against MJ he's been a good Bengal but to be honest he has slipped quite a bit these last couple seasons. I don't wanna see them keep him and sacrifice a good up and comer.

I think Baker is going to add something as well.

I think the reason CL didn't rack up huge sack numbers last year came down to still being a rookie and an unknown commodity plus playing behind other more established players.
Well ,he's been noticed and is no longer a rookie playing behind established veteran players..

Unless he really shows something in the preseason, I think he's done.  Nothing personal, I've always liked MJ, but he's lost what he once was, IMO.

8.5 Sacks is nothing to sneeze at for a rookie, especially one who only played around 40% of snaps. He lead all rookies in sacks including 1.5 more than first overall pick Myles Garrett. For perspective Aaron Donald had 9 as a rookie and Joey Bosa had 10.5.

I wouldn't put MJ out to pasture just yet, Austin said he is looking for people who can stop the run. MJ is still pretty good at that. He's going to be a hard cut.

I agree and many refuse to consider a 3 down DL is more than sacks and pressures. However, I think he was given a contract based on his ability to pressure and get sacks, so versus cutting him, they should go to him and ask to him to take a pay cut. Other teams do it all the time, yet we never do it.

The FO has changed in 2018, keep evolving and cut vets if need be and restructure deals we are over paying based on production. It is fair and will help us short and long term.

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

I agree. As a man MJ is top notch! He has slowed down,  I think he is feeling the heat and will do everything to not get cut. Maybe a pay cut?

Will Lawson ever be able to take the bulk of snaps at DE? Or will he always be a specialist pass rusher with say, Willis in on running downs? Any other 4-3 DEs out there like Lawson?

I would add we also were playing from behind versus in the lead in games allowing other team to be more conservative with play calling in the 4th quarter. Let's get  large leads and teams have to pass more in 4th quarter. Our offense killed us last year, hopefully in 2018 they make great strides and get back to top 10 - 15 offense

Yes, we need to get some leads and let these guys pin their ears back.

I know Dunlap said he would get the sack record but Lawson could, that is how good of a pass rusher he is IMO.
