We all know full and well, how detrimental it can be for a young player's development, to end up in Marvin Lewis' dog house. It appears that rookie edge rusher Sam Hubbard has caught Marvin's eye, for positive reasons. This can only be a good thing, right?

We're deep at defensive End; Him, Willis, and Lawson all look like legit no BS starters.

Happy to see Hubbard coming around after the first showing where he wasn't finishing.
Dude is extremely talented and a very good pass rusher, he gets penetration unlike MJ who gets none.
This is a nice young DE core. Heard Willis had a good game too and looks huge out there.

Willis played well, and he DOES look like a grown man out there. Compared to this time last year, looks like he put 20-25 on.

Uh-oh, writing’s on the wall for MJ. He was praising young receivers just before the LaFell release.

That may well be the actual truth. I'm just saying that I was surprised to see how massive he appeared, compared to this time last year. His build is looking more like Dunlap, than a younger MJ. Lawson is another impressive looking physical presence.

Awesome, really looking forward to watching this D-line against the Bills, they sure sound imposing.

I was already leaning towards we need to pay Geno over Dunlap. The play of our three young guys has solidified that.
Dunlap Willis and Hubbard should be playing the majority of DE snaps. Lawson is the outside pass rush specialist.
MJ didnt look as bad a people say last night. But he needs to be a backup. And he is probably making too much to be a backup

I know that I've been giving Billings a lot of grief, about allowing that run on 3rd and 2, last night. Other than that, he really did look like he belonged with the starting unit. I really think that he will get better as the year goes on, and be making those stuffs, rather than getting blocked out.

Sam Hubbard overpursued ball carriers against the Bears but he fixed his approach angles in just over a week and became a wrecking ball. That’s mental toughness.

I don't know if I would call that mental toughness.
The dude was regularly a man against boys in college, making it easy to drag down guys in the backfield.
In the NFL, everyone is quick, so guys like Sam get humbled in the first game when they realize that giving 100% isn't enough to get there and bring the guy down.
The nice thing is that he made the adjustment, and hopefully he doesn't forget that lesson.

The FO has changed their MO this off season, do it one more time. Cut his salary (offer) and if he balks, then cut him. He is a great DL for 3 million, but a lousy one for 6 or 7 million
I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

I saw that in your other thread giving Billings a lot of grief so i turned around and walked right out lol
I am biased for this guy admittedly. Heard lots of guys in the Gameday thread saying he was playing great.
Happy to hear it wasn't too bad, i agree, he will get better and will make those intimidating stuffs that we haven't
had next to Geno. I know Peko was a good run stopper in his time but he wasn't that nasty enforcer type like i
believe Billings can be.

Yes it is, impressive in just one week to get that cleaned up.

Possible but as I stated before different positions mean different approaches. For example I dont hear let's get AJ some plays off, I hear that on dline with geno dunlap and lawson etc. Also young players especially dline also wear down with 16 games, lawson and Willis seemed to hit a wall last year so depth more important at dline.

So why is Michael Johnson and his salary still on this roster?

Absolutely
Plus have to agree with Marvin that Hubbard is going to work out just fine for the Bengals.
and he is an actual Bengals fan to boot.
