Oh I like loads of their music. One of the rare bands I can listen to pretty much any album throughout.

"Uplift Mofo Party Plan" and "Mothers Milk" are the albums that introduced me to them.  Both great albums, but BSSM Could of been the soundtrack to my senior year in HS.  But I've gone back and "discovered" their earlier stuff and love it.  I really like the album "Freaky Styley"

I was just looking at the comments on that last link and there is one guy in there that is uber critical of them.  And basically says anything after their 1st album is shit.  LOL...I do love their early albums but to say their other albums are shit is delusional, or just trying to sound like a music snob.

You can say they mainstreamed as they went along. But their sound was just so unique. So a little mainstream didnt hurt them in my mind at all . No other band had their sound. Or their message.
