Looking for some bright spots

Thus far this season we haven't had a whole lot to get excited about especially the last 5 games. But looking at our newer and rookie players going down the road who you think shows promise ? Obviously Tyler Boyd is the break out player of the year so besides him.

I'll go Sam Hubbard, he hasn't exactly lit up the stat board but the guy has been pretty disruptive and that doesn't always show up in stats. I think he has 3 sacks or so and has been close several times. He also had the fumble recovery for the TD. I think going forward this guy has potential.

What say you ?

Mixon has raised his ypc to 4.6 from last year's 3.5. No fumbles this year either.

Mixon has been mostly a bright spot when the stupid coaches will use him.

Hubbard is a great choice. He has impressed.

Jessie Bates has looked the part and will be even better with pieces around him.

I'll be the first to say I SEE the potential in John Ross. Not sure if it will be harnessed in Cincinnati, but I think he will end up being a decent player when all is said and done.

All of these guys have been bright spots this year. I'd like to throw AJ Green's name in the hat. Offense is completely different with and without him.

Bates I feel could very well end up being a star. You can't help but wonder how good he could have done this season with some decent coaching ?

I still haven't given up totally on Ross, again with coaches that would build his confidence properly and do stuff with him besides fly routes he still could develop.

I'm hoping Price can finish strong. I think he can and yes, he will still have his rookie mistakes as the year goes on, but, so far I have been fine with his play. Still need to shore up the offensive line in the offseason, but that's an argument for later.

Also, while Billings has been a bit of a letdown, he's flashed enough to show that perhaps he will continue to improve since he's so young still. We really could use that run-stuffing DT because the linebackers can't stop the run either.

There’s a lot to be excited about with this team on both sides of the ball. I like the way the safeties have played. They have the potential to be among the best. I like the way joe Mixon has played & perhaps equally as important; they way he rally’s the sideline.

This could be a very dangerous team, capable of playing with the elite teams if they could just put it together.

Hubbard grades out at 57.0 at PFF or as the #90 rated EDGE. He has a LONG way to go to be considered a good player.

Thad said, he does have a penchant for making plays.

I'd say Bates is the bright spot. He looks like he's going to be a good safety here for years to come.

I’m not so sure about these PFF grades. Hubbereds looked damn good to me.

PFF grades are akin to what a New York cabbie says about redlights : "Strictly for reference!". PFF might be a good place to start, or as a quick reference, but their value doesn't lie in allowing them to finalize your judgement.

When looking at the raw numbers that PFF presents, you quickly see how results stack up against others only. Nothing is accounted for in how those numbers were generated, like near misses, approach angle ever so slightly off, rookie mistakes .... or how athletically talented or football smart the player really is. There's a whole lot more in thoroughly evaluating a player, especially the younger, less-experienced ones. Using these numbers as a tracking measurement over a period of time is where their value comes in. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Jackson, Boyd, Vigil, Billings, Fej
Ross, Mixon, Lawson, Willis, Glasgow
Price, Bates, Hubbard, Harris, Walton, Jefferson
Even 2015, brought in Kroft and Uzomah. Glen negates the Ogbuehi pick.

This is why we still have a 2-3 year window, as long as AJ and Dalton stay healthy.

Truthfully, OL help - let alone LT, is impossible to find a trading partner in NFL. The A&M LTs have disappointed more than one NFL Team.

Agree, PFF grades are a useful tool in evaluating a player but they're no where near and end all conversation kind of thing.

Nah Glen is okay.

The Ced O pick was terrible. 

I'm not sure if he was supposed to be Whit's replacement going forward but we don't have a single soul who is being put out there that even matches up to old/weathered Andre Smith at RT.

We're still reeling at RT, RG, and our free agent LT couldn't hold Whit's jock.

Glen isn't horrible but he certainly doesn't make up for those drafting and FA blunders made by our beloved front office/owner.

I would guess that Whit didn't appreciate the pick.

I was in Buffalo in October and went to Seneca Creek casino for some roulette, and got in a conversation with some Bills fans about Glen. The general feeling on their part was that it was a salary dump.

I look around the league, and the lack of OL talent coming out of college is similar to the lack of TE talent of the 90s and early 2000s. The NBA rookie cap, fixed the TE scarcity problem, but the OL issue is puzzling. Specifically, LT.

Maybe Wisconsin will change that next year.
