Marvin Doesn't Expect Another Year
#1
Thank God because I think he lost his passion a few years ago, but Marvin sounds like he knows he's on his way out and even admits that he should be:

Quote:The Bengals have lost four straight games and their attendance numbers are lower than any year since 2011 as the team limps toward the finish line of a third straight year without a playoff appearance.

None of that adds up to a strong case for Marvin Lewis holding onto his job as the team’s head coach and Lewis said Monday that he hasn’t received any assurance that he’ll remain the coach through the final four games of the season.

“No, and I wouldn’t expect any or ask for any,” Lewis said, via Cincinnati.com. “The least of my worries.”

Given how many times Lewis has avoided the axe since 2003, there’s little reason to think that the Bengals are going to make an in-season coaching change. Lewis’ run looked closer to ending than ever before after last season, however, and the change could finally come once this year is officially in the books.

At least he's admitting that he has no business being a head coach and that we should have a few playoff wins by now.

I hope Mike sees this and finally cuts the cord, even though the only reason he's kept Marvin is because Marvin doesn't stir the pot too much.

We might still be able to make a run while AJ, Andy, Geno and crew are still in their prime enough to produce!

Well, I would not put it past Mikey to keep Marvin another year. Who would want to coach in Cincinnati? Wait, maybe Hue.

The least of his worries? If he doesn’t worry about his job, then he doesn’t worry about winning. Sounds like a guy who doesn’t even want to be here?

He gets another year unless he doesn't want it. Goebbels is already in full bs spin mode over on the home page. Everybody gets another year. The excuses are flowing and that only means one thing. We get to see Marvin's thousand yard stare for at least another year.

He said getting fired was the least of his worries, not winning.

Last year should have taught us all about waiting until the last game is over.

Maybe not so much not wanting to be here as it is knowing he's in way over his head.  I don't think even he thinks he can fix this disaster.  But the money is too large to walk away from.

Not many things sadder than building a legacy and then tearing it down brick by brick by staying too long.

I don’t buy it. Marvin will be back next year as “his team struggled due to injuries” Whatever

Marvin said he was leaving 8 years ago and then he said it again 1 year ago. Even when I see Marvin leave I still won't believe it.

There are probably 50 reasons why this team struggles with injuries being just one of them. Yeah, all teams struggle with them. Our team just doesn't provide a decent talent pool for the 'plug and play' aspect needed to survive an injury setback.

The Free Agency fiasco: failure to retain the ones we developed, along with failure to sign quality players that other teams have developed. The reliance on the draft to fill close to all needs has proven to be a huge gamble.

Questionable player development coupled with a CBA that limits contact time for more productive practices is a source for struggle. Include strength and conditioning with that CBA list of restrictions. Having lower quality players exacerbates this and previously mentioned problems.

Position coaching that doesn't seem to produce much beyond average performance, if even that. A few more eyes on the scouting group would likely yield a better candidate to fill our need(s).

All of this bubbles under the things that get most of the press. Nebulous at best.

16 years of Marvin Lewis has been good, bad, and heading towards ugly faster than most would've believed possible. But as sure as I'm sitting here typing this, I truly believe Marvin didn't get the team where it is now all on his own. He had help. With that said, if you put them all in a bag, I don't know who comes out first other than Mike Brown. He has never been, or will be, football-savvy enough to choose the kind of coach, player, manager, and medical specialist that knows how to produce a winning football program. Nothing new about this. If Marvin stays, then no surprise. If Marvin resigns, not much of a surprise. Marvin getting fired would be an eye-opener, though.

Its a team option for 2019.

Clearly Hue likes being here. This is his third(?) stint with the Bengals.
Remember how three years ago fans were clamoring for Hue Jackson to be the new head coach? My, how things change.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

I've said it before and I'll say it again   Pittsburgh will take a dive to keep Marvin here for them..

Vegas odds makers are probably taking bets on Marvs future and Mikey is taking a chunk of the action ..

Sounds like his job is as secure as ever. That's why it's the "least of his worries".

Not sure where the optimism that he's gone comes from. Sounds to me like he's wondering what all the fuss is about.

Agreed. It really sounds like he knows his job isn’t in jeopardy. Losing his job is the least of his worries Whatever

At this point, I’m hoping for losses. We saw what winning the final two games last year did to Mike Brown’s delusional little mind. Losing out would hopefully be enough to make Mike realize Marvin isn’t the answer.... Pipe dream, I know. But it’s all we can hope for

Bingo !

Marvin's "least of my worries" quote is because he knows no matter the outcome of a season he still has a job. So sad !

Marvin will only be gone if Marvin decides to be gone. And who's going to walk away from Millions of $$$$ with no responsibility, no accountability ?

I thought it was interesting Hobson discounted the injury excuse and acted as if him not returning was a real possibility.

I don't think that's what he meant, nor do I think he'd say that even if he thought it.

I think his sole focus now is stopping the horrendous slide.   He has a lot of poor qualities as a coach, but he's not the kind of guy that automatically assumes his right to his job.  And he's not stupid enough to wonder what all the fuss is about.   It's been a terrible and embarrassing slide.

I'm pretty sure his pre-occupation is stopping the slide not worrying about next years employment.  I think that's what he meant.

The administration and coaching staff have flaws.  Serious ones.   But they're not self aggrandizing idiots.

Now Paul Alexander.  He's a different story.  But he's gone.
