NFL security is investigating Pittsburgh Steelers tight ends coach James Daniel for allegedly assaulting and verbally accosting a New England Patriots fan on the way to the locker room before halftime, according to league sources.
A league official confirmed the NFL is aware of the incident and is looking into it. A Steelers spokesman said NFL security has informed them about the incident and the team is also investigating.
The incident in question occurred before and after halftime of the Steelers' 28-21 loss on Thursday night. Daniel, who was on his way to the Steelers' locker room, was seen allegedly kicking a Patriots fan in the back of his leg and yelling at the fan in front of witnesses.
By the time Daniel returned to the coaching booth after halftime, police and NFL security were waiting for him. Once the coach was identified by witnesses, and police approached him about controlling his behavior, Daniel began shouting at the police officer, according to witnesses.
NFL security, which did not witness the exchange with police, afterward interviewed Daniel about the entire incident, according to sources.

To be fair it's being reported by multiple sources. Not just a singular report originating from ESPN.
P.S. Espn still sucks

Coach just needs to learn to have his bodyguards force the fan into the bathroom and have them keep a lookout while he assaults him

Of course the Steelers deny it:

Quote:An internal investigation done by the Pittsburgh Steelers into an alleged incident between tight ends coach James Daniel and a Patriots fan during halftime of the season opener has found no wrongdoing by the long-time tight ends coach.
Steelers president Art Rooney II released the following statement on Sunday:
"We have conducted an internal inquiry into the alleged incident involving Assistant Coach James Daniel at the Patriots stadium Thursday night. After interviews with Coach Daniel as well as other personnel who witnessed the alleged encounter, we find no corroboration that Coach Daniel was involved in any physical altercation with a fan.
"Coach Daniel has worked as an assistant coach for the Steelers for the past 12 seasons. We have a high level of confidence in his character and are confident that any further investigation of this incident will reveal he was not part of any assault or misconduct involving a Patriots fan."
Daniel stood accused of verbally abusing and possibly physically assaulting a New England fan at Gillette Stadium before and after halftime on Thursday.
The Steelers began their internal inquiry after they were informed of a possible incident by NFL Security. The NFL is also looking into the matter.

FYI, Art, you can't call it an "alleged" encounter and then claim that it was witnessed by people. If people saw it then it was real.

You're such a lawyer when it suits you. How about "alleged assault" counselor?

What I want to know is, why are Pats fans physically along the route to the locker room? Shouldn't they be in the stands? If I were that coach and did it, I would state that I was protecting the team from a fan who broke through security.

I heard a report that said the Patriots have it set up that way.
I'm sure they'll fix it right after they repair the decade long problem with the opposing team's headsets.

Each time a league official went to the sideline, the fans were up in the stands

So Art asked the coach and the coach said he didn't do it, and then he asked several people who saw it didn't happen. I'm convinced.
