Should Bengals have drafted Steven Jackson?

Bengals get Chris Perry and Stacy "Franchise Tag" Andrews. Perry was key part of our '05 offense, but his career was ruined by injury. He had no real history of injury in college and won the Doak Walker award.

He’s being a smart ass. But the Bengals in Fred’s eyes have never done no wrong and all players drafted are pro bowlers

In hindsight...Jackson was the better pick.

At the time we took Simpson, I was like "Let's wait and see how this plays out."

Then after year 1, I was like "Let's wait and see how this plays out." 

Then after year 2, I was like "Let's wait and see how this plays out." 

Then after year 3, I was like "Let's wait and see how this plays out." 

THEN, in year 4...my patience was rewarded with 50 receptions for 705 yards!!! And a SWEET backflip! 

Then, he left as a free agent.

That's a tough decision because you can't guarantee SJAX stays healthy if he's a Bengal, and vice versa for Perry.
Plus, at the time, Rudi was ready to become the main guy after Dillon was traded to NE, so they probably saw Perry more as a complimentary guy to Rudi than they did SJAX.

And, to Fred, Perry was ruined by fumblitis. Didn't he fumble like 5 times over a two game stretch?

Interesting note on Jerome Simpson.  He had more career receptions than 2 of the 5 WRs taken before him and 5 of the 9 other WRs taken in the second round with him.

His biggest problems came when he was the starter.  He was damn good as a rookie and then the injuries started to pike up and then was an absolute disaster as the main back.

Kind of hard to believe Perry only played for 4 seasons isn't it?

You mean his 2nd year. He never rushed for more than 279 yards in a season. But, he did have 51 receptions in Year 2.

That would have had to have been in his final season ('08), and that was one of the worst seasons I have ever seen by an NFL RB.  I don't know if I could name another RB who had over 100 carries and an average of just 2.6 per carry.  But even if I could I bet he would not have 20+ receptions and just average 3.6 per catch.  And as a cherry on top Perry had 5 fumbles on just 124 touches.

20 receptions for 3.6 yards a reception too. That's pretty terrible.

In '05 he was mainly just a third down specialist, but he converted 31 first downs on just 112 touches.

Those receptions added some punch to our offense. That was Palmer's 1st year as a starter too wasn't it?

That was really the 1st season where expectations started to rise.

'05 was Palmers second season as a starter.

Perry's receptions were crucial to the offense because back then we really did not use our TEs as receivers.  In '05 Reggie Kelly had 15 catches for 90 yards.

They used Kelly like a 6th lineman basically.

I'd take Reggie Kelly on our current roster in a second though. Really solid Pro. Could block very well.
