Agreed. He's definitely not starter quality...but he's being paid as if he was.
I would have rather looked at Jesse James.

It's really not that much of an expensive deal and CJ will probably be the #1 TE barring that we don't draft Hockensen or Fant at 11. He's improved every season and ZT must value him for the offense he wants to run.
The Bengals have more than enough money to sign a linebacker if they want to. This signing doesn't affect that.

Well yea, but we got rid of Lazor and Marvin so we can dust off our hands and declare "problem solved" on that.

So they spent $6 million on CJ. $3 million on Hopkins.
You know how the Bengals work. They' spend maybe $27 million total.

That's what the Bengals do. They overpay to keep their own, and that's how the cap space gets eaten up.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Here's his PFF writeup:
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted C.J. Uzomah in the fifth round of the 2015 draft as a developmental prospect at tight end. Four seasons later, Uzomah has struggled to achieve the stats of a league-average player at the position. While he’s had to share snaps with Tyler Eifert and Tyler Kroft, both were injured early this year, and Uzomah failed to take advantage of the opportunity, producing a 57.4 grade that ranks 34th out of 41 qualifying tight ends.

As long as he stays healthy, ill be happy, i think he WILL produce. A racing car's engine is useless if its in the shop "broken". IExpect him to be used more so the chances of injury increase too, will cross my fingers hes uninjured thru out..

As long as Bengals still view Uzomah as no more than a #2 tight end (he's not a #1), I don't have a problem with the signing. Still think they need to look for TE in first 4 rounds of draft. Gotta believe that means Eifert's time in Cincy is over.

Oh...CJ will start at us at TE and we'll be 5-11.

Over-reacting a little aren't you? CJ's salary pretty much fits in with the FA market.

Kroft took the same deal in Buffalo.

Uzomah has shown a little. It’s not a great signing, but not a bad one either, especially when Glass Joe Eifert can’t play more than 3 games. This move looks downright shrewd compared to the Bobby Hart debacle.

I feel like we could've drafted someone of equal ability at a cheaper price fairly easily.
He and Hart are more examples of how the Bengals take "keeping their own" to the extreme.
I feel this complacent attitude holds us back so much.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.

Uzomah is the blocking TE. We will draft Hockinson at 16 after we trade back 5 spots in the first to acquire anothe G that cant block and another 6th round draft choice.

If this were true then no one would be paying TEs this much.
Uzo's contract does not seem that out of line.
