Restore the Faith Draft
#1
I started another thread that summarizes why some fans have lost the "New-Dey" buzz after the new coach hire.  I have not given up hope on Taylor and the Bengals.  But I do think Taylor has some work to do to restore some faith that changes are forthcoming.  I think Taylor and the FO has to hit some homer runs this draft to recapture the hope.

With that said;  What 5 players would recapture the "New-Dey" buzz for you? The Rules are simple, trades are allowed but should be fairly realistic as determined by a reputable "big board" slot prediction.

Bengals draft order:
Round 1, Overall 11
Round 2, Overall 42
Round 3, Overall 72
Round 4, Overall 110
Round 5, Overall 149

Round 6, Overall 183
Round 6, Overall 198 (via Dallas)
Round 6, Overall 210 (Compensatory Selection)
Round 6, Overall 211 (Compensatory Selection)
Round 6, Overall 213 (Compensatory Selection)
Round 7, Overall 223

I'll have to look at some of those picks more closely.  But I like them all.  Smith is my second choice outside of Hockenson.

I'll play...
Part of restoring the faith is adding a FA LB like Zach Brown
Bengals trade #11 and #72 to NYG for #17, #37, and #143
After passing on grabbing a QB at #6, the Giants jump ahead of Washington and Miami to get their guy.

Round 1, Overall 17 Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson
Round 2, Overall 37 Dalton Risner, OT/OG, Kansas St
Round 2, Overall 42 Zach Allen, DE, Boston College
Round 4, Overall 110 Ben Burr-Kirven, LB, Washington
Round 5 Overall 143 Josh Oliver, TE, San Jose State
Round 5, Overall 149 Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn
Round 6, Overall 183 Traded to NYJ for LB Darron Lee

I think Wilkins is going to be a beast in the NFL but I know a lot of fans would be upset if the Bengals drafted a defensive tackle in round one.

I do too. I keep seeing him mocked lower than this. If the Bengals could drop back and get him at 17, I wouldn't complain because he would likely be the BPA.

I remember when some thought he would go in top 3.  He is a Geno clone.

This would be very nice.  But if they Bring in Shelton I think Oliver will not be top choice.

I still want a tackle at 11. We need to settle the LT position for the future.

The problem I have with that is it means another year of our 1st round pick not seeing the field.

And we need day 1 contributors.

I wouldn't be upset.  They have done a fair to decent job of "shoring up" the major perceived weaknesses, thus opening up the draft to take the best talent available.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Same here.

I'd be happy with any of these 4 (White, Bush, Wilkins, Hockenson) in Round 1
Today I'm TEAM SEWELL. Tomorrow TEAM PITTS. Maybe TEAM CHASE. I can't decide, and glad I don't have to.

Round 6, Overall 211 (Compensatory Selection)
Round 6, Overall 213 (Compensatory Selection)
Round 7, Overall 223

Using first pick, I went with the following.  NOTE:  Devin White went #10.

Round 1 Pick 11: Oliver, Ed, DT, Houston (A)-

Absolute freak that got pressure even when teams game planned against him completely (not much around him).  Next to Geno, could be a real difference maker on this team.

Round 2 Pick 10: Risner, Dalton, OT/OG, Kansas State (A-)

Big, strong, smart, and good technique.  Can push Hart for a starting role at RT and develop in to the long term solution at the right side.

Round 3 Pick 8: Long Jr., David, ILB/OLB, West Virginia (C+)

No idea why this guy was rated a C+, but he is a poor man's (No Mike Brown jokes needed here) Devin Bush.  He is a striker that consistently finds the ball and attacks with vigor.  Can cover and in the Big 12, had to cover a lot.  Excellent change of direction and pursuit.  Has nothing to do with being a local guy, but it seems to be working for Hubbard Wink

Round 4 Pick 8: Campbell, Parris, WR, Ohio State (A+)

I really doubt he will be there at this time, but a burner that can do it all at WR.

Round 5 Pick 11: Sample, Drew, TE, Washington (A+)

High character, driven guy that is viewed largely as a blocker, but he can definitely move the chains.  Can evolve in to TE2 and proved quality depth behind Eifert and Uzo.

That's my 5.

1st Round - There really is only one person that I am interested in with the 11th selection and that is Devin White who probably won't be there. If he is take him if not trade back and get Jawaan Taylor as a plug and play RT or Christian Wilkins at DT.

2nd Round - TJ Hockenson should he happen to fall but not likely. More likely either Dalton Risner to play RT or Dexter Lawrence at DT.

3rd Round - Kaleb McGary RT, Erik McCoy C/G, Joejuan Williams...not sure if he is actually a corner or not but looks to be that hybrid guy that you could develop to shut down TEs and RBs, Emanuel Hall WR.

4th Round - Max Sharping RT, Bobby Evans G/T, Anthony Nelson DE, Dontavius Russell DT

5th Round - Mike Weber RB, Zach Gentry TE, Jamel Dean CB, Antoine Wesley WR

1) Devin White, LB LSU - New leader on the defense

2) Dalton Risner, OL Kansas St - Versatile and has played every position well. I could definitely see him push Price, Miller, or Hart for a starting role by the start of the season

3) Jace Sternberger, TE Texas A&M - TE in the mold of Eifert

4) TJ Edwards, LB Wisconsin - Good VRey replacement who is just a solid football player

5) Daniel Wise, DT Kansas - Being moved around the DL didn't help Wise, but he's gotten 3+ sacks every year for Kansas. He's projected best as a gap penetrating 3T.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

This right here, would definitely restore the Faith.  One of the best.

TJ Edwards ran poorly at his pro day. Mid 4.8's at 235 pounds. http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-report-wisconsin-new-mexico-state-oklahoma-state
