(08-06-2019, 09:37 PM)Forever Spinning Vinyl Wrote: Puig in Cleveland 6 for 18 .333 two 2B two RBI two SB two BB one run scored
Aquino in Cincy 6 for 14 .429 two HR five RBI one BB four runs scored

Been telling myself not to get too pumped about The Punisher too soon.  But damn.

Reds need to give JVM more playing time so they can see what they have in him.  The Punisher is doing pretty well i would say.

Yep, it's way early for sure, But he sure does look like a star in the making. I think Van Meter may be a starter in the making as well.

Punisher could sell a lot of T-Shirts.  He has the strangest stance in the box.

A's take no prisoners in Chicago. Lester gave up 10 earned runs in 4 innings. Currently 11-2 after a Kris Bryant homer.

Reds may only be 6 or 7 back when the Cubs come into town.

Don't look now but the Reds have put together a pretty good team and all their best players are young. They've got a bunch of guys who can hit. Their best is pretty damn good. Being their best every night is the next step.

The starting pitching should be a team strength for the rest of the year. The bullpen is the Achilles heel. The bullpen is okay for an inning or two. But it's always more than that. The question is how to tighten it up at this point in the season.

Took him a minute to catch onto big league pitching, but since he got tht first hit out of the way, he's been acting like he owns it.

Quino is a 25 year old from the Dominican Republic.  I don't know how good his field or arm will be at the Major League level but Reds do not appear to miss Puig too much with him in line up.  I do think they need another bat.  Winker is good but damn inconsistent.  Votto is a shell of his former self.

Cubs are being owned by the A's so if the Reds can win this, they would be only 6.5 games back. Hard to believe really. I think last year they were over 15 GB at similar time. Keep in mind, the Reds have a rookie manager with rookie mistakes and the Reds lost several 1-run games or they could be division leader.

Winker has raised his average about 70 points since May.  He is inconsistent but he's on the rise.

Aquino has a great arm.  He's probably not as accurate as Puig but it's a big arm.

Votto is definitely on the downward side of his career.

With the money it would have cost to sign Puig, Reds could maybe sign Iggy at SS and maybe extend Wood.

It’s great to see the young guys doing well. This is why you trade Puig and Scooter, they have to evaluate what they’ve got. They have to see if they can continue success. The pitching will adjust to these guys and figure out each of their weaknesses, the real test will be how they can readjust to the pitchers. Time will tell but they couldn’t do that if they were blocked.

Reds now 4 games under .500 with a much needed day off to rest up for 4 games with first place Chicago Cubs in Cincy.

The Reds in series play lately are 4 wins and 1 tie and no losses.

Thursday night. Wood on the mound. You want to win that one. Start this huge 4 game series with a win. Forget the Yankees vs the Red Sox stuff. If you are a Reds Fan, it is this Reds vs 1st place Cubs. 4 games. In Cincy. Cubs have a good team. Reds have a good team. Many Cubs Fans will be in GABP. Many Reds Fans will be in GABP.

GO REDS.......GO REDS.....GO REDS.

Oh yes, Suarez is at 30 homers. Pretty sure he can hit 35. I'm thinking he can hit 40. How about that, climb into play-offs with all this pitching and a 40 home run guy.

Can the Reds beat the Cubs ??? Reds have been beating the Cubs in 2019. Look it up. Reds have a winning record against Cubs this year. However this weekend will be play-off baseball atmosphere. high intensity, for both teams. A Reds sweep of Cubs would put Reds at .500 ball on season and right around 1st Place. A big reason to nail down the win Thursday......WOOD, BAUER, GRAY, CASTILLO.

Exciting, huh! The Reds have to split at a minimum but they really need to take 3 of 4 to move that needle. If somehow the Reds could sneak into the playoffs, they have a starting rotation that can compete with any team out there. I’m excited for next year but I haven’t given up on this year yet. Realistically, the odds aren’t very good but it’s nice to have at least a small chance vs. the usual none.

Indeed they do !!!!

They're 10-5 over the last 15 and they need to do that again over the next 15 which includes 8 against the Cubs and Cards. And yes it's very nice to have a reason to still be watching.
