I wonder if Castillo is getting fatigued...Not a good sign.

It’s a Reds thing. Now that the Reds are out of it, Castillo has to get knocked out of the CY Young running.

This is a bi-product of his somewhat chickenshit pitching style . . . don't get me wrong, I think he's a stud pitcher, BUT he throws way too many pitches outside of the strike zone hoping he fools the hitter to swing at a ball. The problem is, if they don't swing, he's in the hole and now has to come into the strike zone while they're waiting for it. Plus it runs up his pitch count.

The 1st run was scored on a 3-2 slider right down the middle
The three run home run was on a 3-0 fastball right down the middle
The two run home run was on an 0-1 slider right down the middle. That had to be a mistake pitch.

And he sucks at bunting. Set the bat out there, keep it level, move the level bat up or down to let the ball hit the bat . . . don't lunge and stab at the ball. Very, very poor coaching. I'll not blame my punching bag Bell on this one, but something needs to be done. Little shit like that is why they suck at 1 run games.

I don't think the Reds will win this one... Cry
This is the most frustrating Reds team to watch in recent memory. Blows my mind.

I agree

I think he got lucky so to speak with a lot of batters swinging at a bunch of his pitches that weren't strikes and didn't even start out looking like strikes and he fell to in love with that pitching style. Now don't get me wrong I think he's well on his way to being a stud pitcher but he has to get out of the line of thinking that everybody is always gonna swing at junk !

How about Aquino :andy:

He's one hell of a bright spot on this otherwise somewhat disappointing ending !

His style of pitching is catching up to him.  He throws way too many pitches and he relies on guys swinging at bad pitches.  If guys don't swing at pitches out of the zone, he struggles.

It takes a good game plan to beat him, but if you have that plan and have the discipline to execute it, he is beatable.  If you look at the games he's lost, it's been the same blueprint.

He needs to spend the off season making adjustments.  He has to find a way to get guys out while throwing strikes.

Castillo's era in Aug so far is 6.50. His era post All Star is 5.14.

Who'd of thunk it. Bauer starts a game and we give up 17. Castillo starts a game and we give up 13.

Exactly

The throwing 2/3 of his pitches outside the strike zone worked for him late last season and 1st half this year. And make no mistake he has the stuff to be at the least a very good pitcher.

Teams are on to him now, they've figured out he's out of the zone, a lot. He has to unlearn the style he's pitching now and understand he has to be in the zone a good bit more.

The pitching coach should be able to help him a lot, he seems like a good one.

I was pretty MEH about the Galvis signing. I'm beginning to believe that might have been a decent move.

Yep !

I know it's still way early, way early. But I think this young man is on his way to stardom.

He's got the arm.  And I believe he has the mentality.  Hopefully, they're working a plan for him as we speak.

Eleven homers in seventeen games.  That's insane.  If my math is right, that's 105 in a full season.  The more you think he'll hit a wall, or at least slow down a little, the more he doesn't.

Reds are the team playing catch up. They have a chance for a series win over Cardinals today. It would help the butt whipping they took this week in Washington.

Does this mean the Reds do not sign Iggy (SS) to an extension?

It would be nice to take the series.  I hope Wood has an excellent outing. I know he is still getting his bearings but Reds need him to perform and I think Wood needs it as well.
