You wanna hear a really funny story about that?

In 1988, Brent Musberger said those exact same words in an Sunday evening sports break...about the Bengals when they started the year 6-0.

They could have 5 first round picks and still suck next season

A team that's intentionally trying to tank has more wins than the Bengals who were in win now mode this season.

And people blame injuries to AJ Green. The Dolphins dumped most of their good players for draft picks...and have more wins than us!

The Dolphins starting RB is Mark Walton who we waived! And they have more wins than us!

A win-now team is behind a team that is mainly trying to make other teams better...wacky.  Speaking of that, Minkah Fitzpatrick sure looked like a good pickup for the Steelers, so we are behind teams that trade away players for picks and teams that trade picks for players.  Oh well.

We're behind everybody.

With better coaching, we'd likely have 2-3 wins. You could load this team up with good players and we'd likely still underperform.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Mike Brown knows.

The Bengals will almost certainly go QB. That said, the percentages of that QB working out aren't great.

Honestly, we need soo many quality players that it's hard to really say which way we should go. For instance, a DE like Chase helps us some...but we still have issues at LB and other D-Line and secondary spots. Of course, we have those issues anyways.

We'll be lucky if this team addresses 2-3 deficiencies.

Yeah, but getting mad at ZT doesn't do much, either.  I wasn't wild about the later years of Marvin, but it was pretty clear that he was a decent coach who was just riding things out with an obstinate owner/GM and we knew there was a chance the next HC we had was going to be in over his head if/when anyone with a resume and a spine turned down the generous offer to work for the NFL's laziest owner.

With better coaching we are a bottom-tier team and with ZT and his pals in over their respective heads we are the worst.  Win-now to worst, and we're already looking at 2020 as a win-now season.  Ouch.

Indeed. Taylor didn't hire himself. It's looking like the Bengals bought the McVay-hype and made a terrible hire.

As if they do other things great?

Really we do have the worst coaching staff in the NFL. I know that people think Green and Jonah will change that...but it likely won't. Maybe we eek out 2-3 wins with our schedule being so bad. Jets, Browns twice, Dolphins, Steelers.

Speaking of the Steelers...they're 4-4 without Roethlisberger. AB obviously gone from last year. Bell gone too. IF we lost those caliber of guys...people would be going crazy talking about how we had a mulligan for the year.

I gotta tell you, if the Steelers have a winning season or even win this damn division when Pig Ben spots them an 0-2 record before being out for the year...I just don't know.  I mean, we at least always had this notion that Ben would retire or start to stink and it would be "our time" to take over but here we are.  The Steelers and Ravens aren't great but they're reloading and competing for the division while we muddle about in our version of winless win-now football and vow to get 'em next year while we also hope the Browns don't figure out how to be decent.

How many did we address last off season? O line 1st pick nothing else. Blocking tight end.

Going into the 2019 draft our biggest needs were O-line and LB.  Going into the 2020 draft our biggest needs are QB, O-line, and LB.  It's like we're going the wrong way, or something.  Oh man, if AJ Green walks it'll be QB, O-line, LB, and WR.

Coaching too is a need.

Not if the Bengals also had the Steelers D and offensive line.
