Gale Sayers died

One of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Gale Sayers died at age 77. Sayers whose career was hampered by a serious knee issues was a Hall of Famer despite his shortened career. His friendship with Brian Piccolo was immortalized in the movie Brian's Song

Too bad

Loved both Brian's Song films (the original with Caan and the new one with Mekhi Phifer) and his niece was in Girlicious, so I saw quite a bit of her on that show (one of the few reality shows I ever watched with any seriousness).

Sayers was a complete beast in those days, definitely could have challenged Jim Brown for his records, had he not had his career cut short due to injury.
