I Have Covid-Brain

Even now that I have both doses of the vaccine (even though I still need nine more days to fully build antibodies). after a year of being pretty much locked in, Covid has conditioned the way I think. I still don't feel like I can go many places and, even when I consider going somewhere, I think "what's my risk of getting Covid there?"

When I think about taking trips or even going anywhere, I still think "can't do that until after Covid."

It hasn't even clicked to me that I'll be able to start making plans to hang out soon.

This dealer at the casino in Cincinnati FaceTimed me and said "you can come in because we have Plexiglas between seats," and my first thoughts were "still too risky."

Maybe after the antibodies get fully developed it will go away, but does anyone that's been vaccinated have those same thoughts?

Not even close, and I haven't been right since my Covid infection in December. But as I work in an essential manufacturing facility, I never stopped going to work (my infection came from an outbreak there). Maybe I am just used to being around others and knowing to be cautious.

If anything, I am just antsy awaiting my second dose appointment.

I was actually antsy too thinking "knowing my luck, I'll get Covid while I'm waiting on the second dose."

Why are you getting the vaccine if you already had Covid?  Didn't your body build antibodies?

I thought people were immune if they already had it?

No, many people have been reinfected.

Can you build antibodies and can they test for it after infection?  Just wondering because, if you remember the story I told about the lady with Covid driving by every day to see me waving because I was her only human interaction, she said that she didn't need to wear a mask because she had already been infected so she thought she wouldn't be able to infect me.  If she could still transmit it, she was putting me at risk.

UConn womens basketball coach Geno Auriemmo just tested positive for Covid 4 days after getting his second vaccine shot.

So it is wise to be careful for a while to let it take full effect.

Yes.

It takes your body about 6-8 weeks to build up enough Ig G antibodies for the test to detect.

It is important to remember we’re still learning about this virus and don’t always have all the answers due to a lack of data. So err on the side of caution, Brad.

I'm still being super-cautious, still wearing a mask anywhere in public (which I haven't really been anywhere), and still pretty much scared shitless.

Maybe it's a good thing that I have Covid Brain?

I did start going out again to wave to cars, so that seems like it's making people smile again.

You're institutionalized... I'm kidding. But it's kinda the same thing it's been beat in your head for 365 days. Humans are resilient, and get used to anything sooner or later though. I'm used to this scaled down version of normal life for instance.

I'm happy to announce I scheduled my first dose for next Friday morning.

I'm planning on celebrating (safely), which should be a big deal, but it hasn't even registered that it's real.

For all intents and purposes you're immune now... It's something like 85% effective by the time you're due for your 2nd dose.

I'm getting the Pfizer vaccine... Which one did you get? I was shocked how easy it was. I logged on a site at noon today, and 5 minutes later... Boom. Supply must really be catching up. I'm not even technically eligible til tomorrow.

I heard it was 40-50% immune after the first dose and then it takes two weeks for the antibodies to fully build after the second dose and, while I may be immune already, I figured what's another two weeks to make sure (under 8 days left now)?

I didn't register because I'm brain damaged and I'd find a way to mess it up ( ), but my family made it sound like it was pretty easy.

I got the Moderna and was VERY PLEASED.
