Report: Burrow pushing for Bengals to draft Chase
(04-06-2021, 03:31 PM)BobJohnson55 Wrote: Yep I'm not a fan of the 2nd round receivers taking a lot of snaps, some of them are short and meant to be in the slot also. There's a couple guys in the 3rd but that's even a big risk. Chase just seems like plug and play. And I don't even think chase will be elite or have break away speed needed ,he's just faster then what we have and can help with deep balls.

We've done pretty good with 2nd round receivers:

Carl Pickens
Darnay Scott
Chad Johnson
Tyler Boyd
Tee Higgins

I know we have,I just don't like the guys that much this year compared to the o line in the 2nd

Big Ben wouldn't have been so great without a running game and an  o line that until last year that has been consistently a top 5 line.

We are not winning Super Bowl next year or the year afterwards. Team is at least two years away.

They cannot fix everything so I am putting all my chips on establishing a running game and protecting Burrow.

I might feel differently if they had signed a top free agent guard but they didn't .

You don't pass on someone who might be a Hall of Fame left tackle for someone who might e a hall of fame WR,

That is just insanity in the NFL.  This team is going into year 3 of rebuild mode with ZT at the helm.  No team should need 4-5 years to turn it around.  No team can also honestly expect to build up a team over the course of 4-5 years through the draft alone, either.

I agree that this team has not put themselves into position to win the SB this year unless they start getting miracles.  But saying the next two years will be a wash and hopefully in year 5 or 6 this is turned around (when Burrow and half the draft picks are the back part of their contracts) is just ridiculous, and if that's the organization's goal, we're in more trouble as fans than it's even appeared.

Torry Holt as well.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.

Another tackle out of Oregon who hasn't played in a year and didn't play that great of competition.  He's going to take some time. If we took chase I'd be more at ease knowing how Tee Higgins did in his first year right out the gate. Plus there's good 2nd round lineman who can be groomed up.

If I heard sewells name called I'd be like ok,but then worry about receiver. I would love to take Pitts over chase but then you'd have to cover o line and wide receiver. Even though Pitts would change how defenses play us.

1.  Chase opted out as well.  He'll take time as well.
2.  2nd Round linemen?  Haven't been able to do that in ages.  I don't trust this team when it comes to evaluating linemen after the obvious ones.

The Bengals would never do it, but there are 2 generational prospects in this draft - Lawrence and Pitts.

This thread has grown into giant black hole...lol... Everyone has a prospect that they like. We certainly all have different opinions on how to get "there".
The good thing is that we all want to win football games.

Personally, I'm perfectly content with our current draft position. I'm extremely confident that a very good WR or OL can be drafted in the second round.

..and I do. I really don't see a huge difference between Rashod Bateman in stature, athleticism, or production

I also think folks are sleeping on Nico Collins dude goes 6'4" 215 with 4.43 speed and showed great short speed in the 3 cone and shuttle.

Whys it got to be a giant black hole? Its just football talk and I enjoy talking football.  After the draft it's going to be very boring black hole of boredom till August.

I'm not a fan of Bateman, he looks like a good route runner ,but don't think he will be that good just my opinion, I don't know much about nico Collins. Have to look him up.i do know I don't want them short slot receivers people keep mentioning in the 2nd.

Yes chase opted out as well ,but he played at LSU and played top competition, while Sewell did not play against top competition.  We also took another tackle out of Oregon that could move well ,Erik Fischer . It's all hypothetical and how you feel a player will do,but I just feel Sewell might not be ready and could possibly take a whole year, then he could very well not do well vs good competition, where chase already proved he can.

And lastly I'll say I fear another long boring losing season. We've been losing since 2016 that is a long time. This team needs to get a playoff win. We should always play for the year ahead because 2 years from now you just don't know what's going to happen. You can't keep everyone together.  Look at Dallas cowboys O line and how long that lasted.

If you are one of the posters that complain about how Cincinnati overpays their RBs and are calling for Chase or Pitts, then I'm inclined to think that you probably don't know a lot about the game of football. Maybe you do well in Fantasy Football, but don't quite get the importance of the big guys that don't touch the ball.

Really? Well let's look at all the first and 2nd round lineman the Steelers and Patriots have drafted in the 1st or 2nd round for the last ten years. We already drafted a top o lineman in the draft with jonah Williams.

32 pages so far. To infinity and beyond. Hey, that's what this message board is for, but 32 pages? Jake Harper would be proud.

To steer this back on topic...

Tobin, when asked by Dan Hoard in his latest podcast "Duke, Duke, Duke" said that he wouldn't divulge too much, but that Joe Burrow is an interesting and engaging person and that he likes to speak w interesting and engaging people a great deal.

Don't know what your point is here.  For a four year stretch from '09-'12 every single pick made by the Steelers in the first two rounds were linemen.  Their O-line was built around first round picks David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncy.

Patriots used first round picks on OTs Nate Solder and Isiah Wynn and DTs Malcom Brown and Dominique Easley.  OT Sebastion Vollmer was a second round pick in 2009.   OT Antonio Garcia was their second pick in the '17 draft and OG Joe Thuney was their second pick in '16.

Both of these teams believe strongly in using their high draft picks on linemen.

Is there a reason you’re phrasing like that instead of just saying they took those two guys in the 3rd round?

My point was them successful teams don't draft top o line every year that often, and you have to go pretty far back excluding Wynn. It would be interesting to check out every team's o line out and see how it's not full of top picks and who's is,because our Bengals fans want to put together another 88 superbowl o line including a stud in munoz again..

Outside of obviously the option of Ja'Marr Chase I am very interested in Bateman and Collins later on.
