I sure hope so. If this team is to stay any kind of competitive we need all the pitching we can get.

Are those numbers right? I thought he was 3-10?

Starting to come together for them, soon enough they'll have to make decisions. Sonny, Castillo, Miley, Mahle, Santillan, and Vladimir Gutiérrez. Not sure who you kick out of the group there. Hope they don't screw around with Vlad or Santillan and try to keep them up but in the pen. Rather see them stay in the rotation here or at Louisville to keep working on being a starter. Also have Hoffman nearing his return, of course that is a name you probably could toss into the long relief type of role.

My mistake.  I was looking at the record of the games he started, not the decisions he took.

Post corrected.

I'm glad Votto finally decided to play baseball again.

100% agreed. One of the most frustrating stretches of any player I've ever rooted for . . . #2 in MVP to all of a sudden a passive, weak approach more focused on fouling strikes than actually trying to drive and attack pitches.

Now if the team could get back into the early season mentality of "I'm focusing on hitting line drives" instead of watching player after player strike out swinging underneath the fastball. I would love to tell Eugenio Suarez "Try hitting the top of the ball since you keep swinging underneath everything." but I guess Zinter is more of a prep coach and not much of an "in the flow" type of coach.

A lot of people say this but it just is not true.  Last year Votto's HR% (4.9) was the third highest on his career behind only 2010 (5.7) and 2017 (5.1).

But I agree that Votto's decline was as sudden as it was mysterious.

That'll play. Think he's just starting to find what he can do despite aging. Having other guys there to take the offensive load off his shoulders probably helps, too.

He also had some absurdly unlucky ABs early in the season. He was absolutely mashing the ball with hard contact, just with little to show from it.
