I try to not nitpick ball and strike calls to much. But it really seemed slanted in much of the first few innings of the game last night. That pitch India got called out looking on in 1st at bat was 4 or 5 inches off the plate outside. How does a major league ump miss that bad ?
But the bad thing Mahle wasn't getting those same calls ! The Cubs guy was getting away with murder, 3 or 4 off the plate pitches outside called strikes. And 2 or 3 of Mahle's pitches actually touched the edge of plate - Ball
And there have been several instances of ump's having a moving, large strike zones are the new norm in baseball and not just against the Reds.
Seems like the level of skill ? of these newer umps is slipping pretty bad.

You just gotta love it when Votto gets on a tear..When Votto heats up there's just no better hitter in baseball. He might just be eyeballing a shot at the HOF..

Damn the Cubs just traded Rizzo to the Yankees. Be nice to get him out of our division. Feels like he always kills us.

His ERA this season is 6.75 his career ERA is over 5 ! What more do they need to see ? For every good game he has he has 2 bad.
At best he's a middle of the game one inning type of guy. There's nothing closer about him.

Well of course we are going to lose. The other 2 teams we want to lose are losing so god forbid we win and gain a game on both of them.

Threw over 20 pitches while blowing the lead in the 9th and a left handed hitter coming up. He was done.

Dude couldn't throw an actual strike to save his life. 20 pitches and only 3 were actually in the strike zone. He got lucky as hell that those guys were up there hacking away. If they had just stood up there with the bat on their shoulders, bases would have been loaded with 0 outs after 3 straight walks.
This was the 2 strikeouts. After Hembree walked the 1st batter and also threw a wild pitch.
That said, Doolittle was NOT the answer. Even if you ignore the fact that he's not a good pitcher and just pretend he is, the guy he was up against mashes lefties.

If I have learned anything about the 2021 Reds, that means that he will sit on the bench for the next 3 weeks while Suarez keeps hitting .170, and then be sent down to AAA.

I'm kind of wondering what happens to Farmer when they finally bring the kid up from Louisville Barrerro (If he can his big league pitching well).. Farmer's currently at .262, but this past month or so while Votto's been ripping the cover off the ball so has Farmer.. IDK..maybe he'll move to first when Votto finally decides to retire, but I'd like to see Farmer stay with the Reds awhile. You don't see too many guys who can play both SS and catcher. Come to think about it I can't think of too many positions Farmer hasn't played at some point.

The Brewers still have 6 more games against the Pirates whereas the Reds have 13 against the Pirates including 9 of the last 18 games of the season. In August, the Reds are currently scheduled to play 6 games against winning ball clubs. Aug 1st against the Mets, Aug 24-26 against the Brewers and August 30th and 31st against St Louis. The Brewers are scheduled to play 11 games against winning clubs in August
And here's San Diego's upcoming schedule against teams with a winning record. 27 games in 9 series.
@ Oakland 2 - starts today then 5 straight series against losing squads so they are set to go on a run before their very tough final stretch
vs Los Angeles 3 in late August
vs Houston 3 - begins their September run of tough opponents
@ Los Angeles 3
@ San Francisco 4
@ St Louis 3
vs San Francisco 3
@ Los Angeles 3
@ San Francisco 3 - Oct 1, 2, 3
Only 5 games against winning teams in August. September gets much tougher with 22 of their last 27 games coming against teams with a winning record. The other 5 games come vs the 52-54 Angels(2) and the 52-54 Braves (3). By comparison, the Reds only play 8 games against teams .500 or better in their last 27 games. 19 of the Reds last 27 games come against the Tigers (3), Cubs (3), Nationals (4) and the Pirates (9). The Padres still have 19 games remaining against the Dodgers and the Giants.
