Bengals have a better winning percentage against the Lions (.750) than any other team.
We are 5-1 on the road, and it has been FIFTY-ONE YEARS since we have lost at Detroit. That 1970 matchup was unique because both teams would make the playoffs that year.
Single game records v Lions
Passing yards............. 399, Esiason (11-19-89) W
Pass tds.................... 3, (3 times) last Dalton (10-20-13) W
Pass rating................ 135.9, Dalton (10-20-13) W
Rush yds.................. 184, Dillon (10-28-01) W
Rush td.................... 2, (4 times) last Rudi Johnson (12-18-05) W
Rush avg (10 att)...... 8.0, James Brooks (11-2-86) W
Receptions............... 11, (2 times) last Chad Johnson (12-18-05) W
Rec yds................... 184, Tim McGee (11-19-89) W *other 11 reception game*
Rec td..................... 2, Dranay Scott (9-13-98) W
Defense..There are only 2 games where a Bengal had 2 sacks against the Lions. There is only 1 game where a Bengal had 2 interceptions against the Lions. And one Bengal did both of those things in the same game. 11-22-92 Bengals suffer one of their rare losses to the Lions, but you couldn't blame James Francis. Not only did he have 2 sacks and 2 interception, but he also set the Bengals single game record for interception return yards (107) against any team. One was returned for td.

We lost the '92 game in part because Barry went off. He had 151 yards on 29 attempts (5.21 YPC) and a TD. Hoping for a better run D tomorrow.

I still remember the game in '98 where we won in OT from a Corey Sawyer pick 6. I had just broken my arm and lost my girlfriend all in the same day the night before the game, so needed any kind of pick me up and that win certainly did it.

Bengals clinched their first playoff appearance in fifteen? years with a win over the Lions.

This was the very first road game I ever attended. The Detroit fans held an “orange out” in protest of Matt Millen’s ineptitude, and Bengals fans traveled really well to that one. The whole stadium was orange. It was a nice blowout, and it seemed like all of our guys had a great game. Carson, Chad, and Rudi all showed out.
It was also my first game after I turned 21, so I had a good time in that area too.

This board (and I) will have a total meltdown if we lose this one. Lol

You're probably right, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happens.
This team has good elements but is not a good team overall despite being 3-2... if that makes sense?
Between coaching issues and players not executing it has flaws.
I think those things could be corrected so I'm not trashing them.
Do I believe that they will be corrected? Eh... not sure about that one.
The defense isn't perfect but they are doing well.
The offense is certainly not where it needs to be. Their league rankings don't lie.
This team can beat any team and be beaten by any team currently in my opinion.

Yup. Sadly, that pretty much sums up my sentiment.
So much talent but something is just OFF.

So so so true. We continue to play at our competitions level. We can easily win any game and lose any game.

Was at that game. Henry was suspended for the game and I was telling Kelly Washington in warmups that it was his chance. He would do all kinds of gestures for a single first down catch, but at least they won.

That’s a money statement right there!
Something IS “off” and it’s the offense, specifically play calling. For some reason the Bengals don’t look like they came to play unless it’s third — or too often fourth — down and they HAVE to convert. First and second down plays look like total time wasters to me. I wonder if Zac knows the rules allow for consecutive first down plays or that it’s perfectly legal to convert on second down.
What I don’t see with the 2021 Bengals is a sense of urgency unless, of course, they are behind late in the fourth quarter and have to score. If the offense played with that sort of energy the entire game the Bengals would blow games wide open in the first half.
You’re right: The talent is there. It’s being poorly coached.

I'm not one to remember stats much, but I remember the 2005 Bengals had a crazy year against the NFC North:

Well the Browns play the Cardinals today, and Baltimore plays the Chargers. We have the opportunity to go a game up on the Browns and tie it up with Baltimore. Need to pull in this win today.
