Don't blame the defense
#21
It’s mostly the defenses fault. It’s a team loss because this team failed to have an effective running game which made it really hard to score inside the 5, but the D failed to make adjustments and gave them 5 yards per carry.

In what universe is giving up 34 points, 500 yards of offense, 400 passing yards to a guy making his first career start is playing well enough to win?

Isn't trolling a bannable offense?

Defense deserves credit for the very few things they did good. However, they are certainly the #1 reason we lost the game.

People blaming the D obviously dont understand football. we generated 3 turnovers in plus terrritory 2 in the red zone. while O left us a first and goal at the 9. Offense score only 14 by themselves and gives 7 back with a TO yet its the Defense fault. Yes we gave up 400 yards but it was alot of empty calories. all the while Jets won time of posession by 13 minutes.

That's right. Giving up 500 yards of total offense is just good defense. All the best defenses give up 500 yards of total offense.

Look at any professional defensive rankings. I bet you ALL of them list the best defenses as the ones giving up the least amount of yards, but sure, some guy on a Bengals message boards says giving up 500 yards of offense is good defense, so they are ALL wrong. Rolleyes

We win the game if it is 14 to 7.

This is some really lame trolling.

Defense generated 17 points themselves and Offense gives a first and goal from the 9 not to mention offense generated 23 minutes of TOP for the entire game. Keep being clueless I don't care.

The D was awful don't care how you spin it or if they caused 15 turnovers; letting a QB making his first start look like an All-Pro, the missed tackles, etc really hindered us. Scoring 31 points should be enough to beat anyone in this league period.

Hopefully come out a little better versus the Browns.

We win if the score is 14-7.

Happy now?

500 yards and gave up 34 points.

So a defense that has been allowing only 18.2 ppg on average from the beginning of the season (with the high allowed being 25 vs GB) all of a sudden allows 34 points to be scored on them and it's not their fault because the offense scored a measly 31 points. As "bad" as the offense did, if the defense played to its norm, the game should have ended in the neighborhood of 31-17 or 31-21.

This thread is as bad as the defense was yesterday. Our LBers were truly awful, and allowed over 200 yards in coverage. It was also Awuzie’s worst game as a Bengal. He got beat like a drum on several of the Jets TD’s.

Getting a few turnovers doesn’t excuse playing like absolute garbage the entire rest of the game. The 2005 Bengals came up with a lot of turnovers, too, they were still a bad defense.

Our defense has been great most of this year. However, our defense is the reason we lost this game, just as our offense was the reason we lost to the Bears in week 2. It doesn’t mean they will be terrible the rest of the year, but they need to own it this week, and I’m sure they already have.

I think it should be, the defense had a few good moments but overall they played poorly and were a significant factor in the loss.

They did. Specifically Jessie Bates when he came out with Mixon and Boyd at the press conference.

To not blame the defense is either trolling or delusional.

The fumble they got was another example of busted coverage, no one even coming close to slot corner. Defense was Terrible.

how much time of possession did our offense have?

if the offense cant make long drives to give the defense a rest the d will have a bad day

Makes you wonder if Lou took the boys out for some 3AM New York pizza like he talked about in that pre season presser…
