Don't blame the defense
#41
Both sides didn't make plays in crunch time. This one is on the whole team.

I will say that the Jets game plan would not have worked if it wasnt a Home game for them. They were taking advantage of the Bengals base defense by lining up quickly calling the plays at the line and not allowing Bengals substitutions.

That said the Bengals struggled to tackle in space something they have been excellent at all season.

Edit: The Chargers run a very similar offense to what the Bengals seen vs the Jets but with alot more talent.

Giving up over 500 yards of offense to a top tier NFL team is understandable. It SUCKS, but it’s understandable.

Giving up over 500 yards to a bottom feeder Jets team led by a guy most have never heard of is unacceptable. Flat out.

You can sugarcoat a turd all ya like, its still a turd. [emoji2369]

Win probability up by 11 with 5 min left was pretty much 100%. Teams this season are 0-59 when trailing double digits with 5 mins left. Sure we could have capitalized more on the turnovers but we let a backup complete more passes in his first start than any first time starter in HISTORY! On a bad team missing their LT and #1 WR. So yes the D let this team down. Offense didn’t look pretty but scored more than enough points to win a game against a bad team.

Don't you understand, bfine? Anyone who understands football KNOWS that our defense played great yesterday. Ergo, if our players and coaches blame the defense they clearly don't understand football, but that'd be hard to explain considering they DID play great yesterday.

Oh who to believe about these things abolutely everyone involved in professional football or one guy on a Bengals message board?  Whatever

Burrow deserves blame too. He needs to be smarter with the ball, and in that case even eating a sack was a better idea than throwing it right at a defender. Remember we still were leading and without the turnover at worst we make them drive the length of the field.

Perhaps.  I'd also point to the receivers shitting two sure touchdown passes down their legs throughout the game.  One was Chase, the other was the oddball play where Uzomah and Boyd just stood there looking at each other as the ball sailed between them.

Either way, 31 points is 31 points.  The offense did enough to win by almost any reasonable standard.  The defense takes the blame and the defensive coaches should have to take a hard look at whatever non-prep throughout the week led to this.  The 2 high shell wannabe prevent was exposed early, yet it remained the entire game.

The scariest part is what happens if it wasn't the coaching.  Can this Cadillac price tag caliber defense not defend against an offensive game plan consisting almost entirely of 4 yard passes?  We better hope it can, or else we're in for a long and painful second half of the. season.

You can't give up 500 yards to the MF Jets!

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Someone correct me if I'm not remembering correctly, but didn't the Jets basically deploy the same style offense that the 49ers did back in 2019 that gashed the Bengals?
I seem to recall a lot of outside RB runs and short passes like screens and slants.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

scoring points is great... But you gotta control to clock too... which we dont we thrive off the big play.

It was a full team failure.
Only 318 total yards of offense and 511 yards allowed on defense.
Only 41 rushing yards the whole game.
This was the first game all year the Jets have allowed less than 100 yards.

The Jets did a much better job at scheming/gameplanning.

The defense definitely deserves some blame they didn't play they're best game. But the scheme was awful and we didn't adjust to put our players in a better situation. We needed to cover the the short routes and they were having success against the zone coverage. In the end when we had to make a stop they did and had an unfortunate penalty.

You can talk about changing the culture and I do like the group of players we have. But this is just classic Bengals of the second you really have hope that things are starting to turn you have a loss that is absolutely embarrassing. Probably overreaction but I can't help it that was a bad one and now I don't know what to think about this defense/coaches. I hope they prove me wrong but I think were gonna go on a slide and lose some games in a row.

I knew Saleh was the DC from that 2019 SF-CIN game, but I didn't realize Mike LaFleur was on that staff too.

Our specialteams on kick returns and punt returns have been so awful this year that it forces both the offense and defense to play at a top 10 level every week to compensate.

It was just a weird game on Halloween man. I expected us to win this game, start slow but win it. Nice interceptions by Bates
and Pratt that should of resulted in 14 points though and yeah, the Offense just couldn't get push against the Jets NT's. I am
not blaming the Defense but they should of played better. Hilton made the play that would of got us the ball back where we
would of had a chance to win it but the refs made a terrible call on that helmet to helmet and everyone knows it.

Its alright, knew this was going to be a rough day if we indeed lost to the Jets but I like their coaches. I wanted Saleh as our
HC when we were shopping. Was just hoping they didn't start turning into a good team against us damn it. That Mike White
guy played good, real good, same with Michael Carter who I forgot they grabbed up from North Carolina.

3 road games in a row took its toll and it was obvious. Need this home game against the Stains and the bye.
