The regression of Jessie Bates
#61
If folks are suggesting Bates' performance is being downgraded because the players in front of him are performing better; then what's the benefit of signing him?

PFF grades
2018- 79.9
2019(2nd half)75.5
2020-90.1

You can't just remove half a season because it doesn't fit the narrative you want though.

He had a 61.2 grade in 2019 and a 61.4 this year. So it really looks like this:

2018: Very good
2019: Slightly above average maybe?
2020: Elite
2021: Slightly above average maybe?

So which guy are we getting if we ink him to a big contract? I value consistency if you're dropping a big contract on a dude.

Agreed. Plus Reiff has already said he's willing to change positions if needed...which he has done before. I value versatile linemen and team players. Plus I don't see him breaking the bank.

I agree. I'm fine with re-signing Reiff.
If the Bengals can re-sign Reiff and Spain and get a new C, I think this OL can be good.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Reiff is gonna need a new deal, Hendrickson, if Hilton or Awuzie are on 1 year contracts, they need to be signed. I put all these guys ahead of Bates

I agree with this.  I'd add Ogun to the list as well.
