Who gets it?
I just learned this myself today. And I actually think it is quite appropriate.

I was hoping someone got it by now and gave the answer. I have no idea what yall talking about and if I have to read Hobspin to figure it out forget it. I'm in no mood after Sunday to hear his spin.

Okay, this is very obscure, but a "Hobson's Choice" is a situation where there really is no choice. The most famous "Hobson's Choice" is "Take it or leave it."

Well RUSH always said "if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice". I will chose freewill.

Pretty sure he's just quoting the song, which basically says (as far as I've ever understood it) there are so many approaches to life and how we react to it, but "choosing" freewill instead of just saying everything is pre-determined or left to chance and applying your own input to your own life. I'd rather debate Rush lyrics than talk about Hobson, even though this thread is off the rails to begin with!

Yep. I get it. Make someone believe it's an "either or" situation but there really is only one choice. I had a feeling someone would be goofy in my attempt to quote RUSH. 42 is not "getting it either". Oh well... |
