Best passing days in Bengals history
#1
It's funny, a couple weeks ago I wanted to start a poll about who had the best (and worst) passing day in team history. I did the research, wrote down all the candidates, then got lazy and didn't post.

Now there's probably no need for a poll. LOL

That said, I still think it'd be an interesting thing to discuss, so here's your candidates:

*Best games*

Burrow: 37-46-525-4-0 (143.2 rating) 42-21 vs Ravens

Boomer: 31-45-490-3-0 (127.1 rating) 34-31 @ Rams
Boomer: 23-30-425-5-1 (143.8 rating) 52-21 vs Jets (amazing for only 30 attempts)
Boomer: 18-24-320-3-0 (156.2 rating) 45-27 vs Oilers

Kenny: 17-21-297-3-0 (perfect 158.3 rating) 24-14 @ Colts
Kenny: 30-46-447-2-0 (111.4 rating) 33-24 vs Bills (amazing stats for 1975)

Blake: 18-22-275-3-0 (perfect 158.3 rating) 27-9 upset @ super bowl Steelers
Blake: 23-33-354-4-0 (144.4 rating) vs Oilers

Palmer: 33-50-401-6-2 (113.4 rating) 45-51 loss @ Browns
Palmer: 20-24-233-5-0 (146.7 rating) 45-10 vs Bears
Palmer: 16-21-269-4-0 (157.2 rating) 34-20 vs Chargers

Dalton: 25-30-286-4-0 (146.0 rating) 31-7 @ Browns
Dalton: 19-30-325-5-1 (125.7 rating) 49-9 vs Jets (Marv showed mercy and yanked Andy in early 4th.
Dalton: 27-38-363-4-0 (136.2 rating) 42-14 vs Vikings

Burrow, Kenny and Blake had more obvious choices, hence why they got fewer nods.

I'm going to shake this up by allowing 3 choices, because we all know everyone is voting Burrow. Then we can sort by percentages to see what the top 5 games were.

I will be posting a poll for the worst games here in a bit.

Kind of OT, but I remember that game.  It was on Monday night.  O.J. Simpson rushed for over 200 yards

This is a fun thread. They are all notable games and worthy of consideration. I don't really have any substantial criteria for my choices other than the memory of having watched the game. On a side note, I forgot the hope Blake gave me in the '90s.

My top 3:

Burrow: 37-46-525-4-0 (143.2 rating) 42-21 vs Ravens
Boomer: 23-30-425-5-1 (143.8 rating) 52-21 vs Jets
Blake: 23-33-354-4-0 (144.4 rating) vs Oilers

Not OT, imo.

I'm totally cool if yall want to discuss memories of some of these games as well.

Give me Boomer for 5 TD’s and 425 on 30 passes. Hard to beat that even if a couple games have more yards total.

Remember that night well. It was exciting to see my favorite player, KA, shine like that on a national stage. This was at a time when MNF was still a big deal. It was the only prime time game of the week, always a bit of a buzz to it.

Gave my third nod to Carson and his 6 TDs against the Browns. Was that the 2004 game at PBS with the crazy score or the 2007 game up there with the crazy score?

You left out what is by far the greatest passing performance in Bengals history:

Anderson: 14-22-161-2-0 (115.9) 1982

I was at the game on Sunday and I'm only 30 so gotta go with Burrow... however it looks like the below game was more significant not knowing the details of it other than it was close.

Boomer: 31-45-490-3-0 (127.1 rating) 34-31 @ Rams

I went with the Palmer 4 TD game vs the Chargers. Only because I am thinking that was the game after Chris Henry passed away. That was a special game.

Pretty sure that was the 45-51 loss.

We also has a 58-48 win against the Browns.

Was that the Super Bowl or something?

Pretty pedestrian numbers, in comparison to the ones listed.

I didn't use playoff games though.

Amazing performance in arctic conditions. Another great Anderson game from that season: 25-37-396-3-0 (130.0), against a good Denver team.

I'll be honest, other than Burrow's performance from Sunday, it's really tough for me to contextualize the other performances listed, they're all just "numbers". If I had more info, like what game, the significance of the said game, and bearing on the success or failure of the season would give me a lot more to go on from which to make honest and sincere selections.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

AFC championship game vs Chargers
-57 degrees (I think) with wind chill. Anderson outplayed Fouts and led Bengals to their first Super Bowl.

Weather + significance of the game + performance = best passing game in Bengals history.

This thread lags to the 2nd page, while the "bad game" thread is at the top? What does that say about our board? LOL

I voted for...

Burrow
Boomer: 425 yards and 5 TDs on 30 attempts
Blake: perfect 158.3 rating in upset over Steelers in Pittsburgh

Blake's game is the most underrated in our history, I'd say. That Steelers squad made the Super Bowl that year. We almost swept them thanks to Blake, as he led us to a 31-14 lead in the other game at half, but we lost 31-48 in typical Bengal fashion.

Fair enough, but again, I didn't count playoff games for anyone.

It doesn’t say anything about Bengals fans that we all didn’t already know lol just another shining example of what we are reminded of after every loss

Same way I felt. I vote Burrow's performance for now, I remember the Palmer 6 TD game against the Browns and the 4 TD day
against the Chargers though, both were great games by Carson. Dalton's 3 that are listed were also great, loved that Jets game
but MLJ had a profound impact on that game with 4 TD's. I don't remember the Boomer and Kenny big stat games much as it
was the team games I remember when we were either pushing for the playoffs, in the playoffs or in the Superbowl.
