Kapernick, Luck and Dalton

Can you really be "underrated" when fans of the teams in the division are constantly slobbering all over the AFCN? Can you really be underrated when the national media acknowledges the AFCN as the best, or one of the best divisions in football over the past X years?

I can't call that underrated, this division gets plenty of love, a lot of it is deserving too. Baltimore and Pittsburgh have been great teams for a while and now the Bengals have been for a few years too. It just seems like it's declining a bit and the Ravens and Steelers could be worse than usual this year due to injuries, suspensions, and some poor FO decision making put together.

Indy's OL isn't nearly as good as ours and neither is their defense. Not to mention that Luck is playing with cracked ribs.

Yes, it's a down year for Luck no doubt, but the team around him isn't nearly what we have in Cinci.

I'm not knocking Dalton's year. It is a great year so far. But OP was a ridiculous in that is assigns Bengals success to one player, ignoring the quality of this team. It was no more a valid opinion than saying Dalton has no weapons. This whole thread needs to go to the Dalton mega thread.

Flenner isn't even considered to be their #1 TE D Allen is.  He had 8 TD receptions just last season.  Johnson had 85 receptions for 936 yards just last year.  Has our #2 ever put up those types of numbers?  Frank gore had 1,106 yards rushing and a 4.3 carry average just last season.  He even has the same average this year as he did then.  He sucks now though.  TY Hilton was a pro bowler last season.   Donte Moncrief is a decent second year receiver.

At any rate, these players were picked to go to a SB.  Their offense was supposed to be high-powered.  Now all of a sudden, with no major skill player injuries, they are all garbage.

Every year there is a team or two that was crowned during the off-season that busts.  The Colts may either be like that OR since they just fired their OC could possibly be like that Ravens team that fired their OC mid season and went on a run.  Who knows.

My biggest point is that we can rag on certain divisions being easy and the AFC North being hard, but we have to admit that we made the playoffs 4 years in a row in that hardest division and lost to teams from the AFC South, AFC South, AFC West, and AFC South.  Plus, the last time the Steelers made the playoffs they lost to an 8-8 AFC West team that made the playoffs almost by default.

That's just the nature of the playoffs, though.  Both 7-win teams that made it won their games, and the perennially-crappy AFC South has racked up a surprising number of post-season wins despite being a division one can win with what may be 6 wins this season.

I just don't see how players can go from players good enough to win a SB with in a couple of months, to the reason a particular QB is having a down year.  From a skill position standpoint, this year's Colts are better than last year's roster.

The playoffs is a small sample size.  Over the course of the last 3 seasons the AFC North has a winning record whereas the AFC South has a losing one.  It isn't such a stretch to say one conference has an easier road to the playoffs than another one.

you knew Colin was a flash in the pan to begin with.
Luck is good and everyone knows it and hes barely 3 years in with some adversity. The Colts will win again. Hell, the Colts went to playoffs Harbaugh and Bert Jones.

Andy will have a nice cushy career of not quite good enough for the big time
