So, even after the tag, we're at 47.2M? Without cutting Waynes? That seems low for everything we've heard/read.

Both Over-The-Cap and Sportrac had us at $48 million BEFORE we tagged Bates.

But they didn't know what the 2022 cap would be.

There are official cap numbers only teams and agents see, the difference could potentially be some bonus structures and minor incentives that don’t always get captured correctly from those sites. Also they do occasionally get contracts wrong.
Not sure where OP got the number but if it came from the team or a national reporter it may very likely be correct.

I know Spotrac was already using the 208.2 number that's been made official, plus the 5.3m rollover from last year, which put them at 213.5 total. After tagging Bates, they have the current cap space at 35.9...which seems pretty accurate.

This is without the rollover.
Bengals are expected to roll over $5.3 mill, which would bring their 2022 cap to $213.5 mill.
Spotrac has the Bengals with $35.8 mill in cap space after Bates tag ($12.9 mill).
Bengals are now at 47 rostered players, so there will be 4 more players added before knocking any players' caps off.
Not as much to work with as some thought.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Spotrac has the Bengals with $35.8 mill in cap space after Bates tag, but they have Bates incorrectly tagged at $12.9 mill instead of $13.5 mill.
So the current cap is actually closer to $35.2 mill.

The 12.9 is the official number from the NFL that was sent out to teams yesterday.

Oh really? I could have sworn the NFL.com article posted yesterday about his extension said $13.5 mill.
Maybe they corrected it after the official number was set.
EDIT - Regardless, I do feel like that while some of the depth contracts essentially won't be counted, thus making the available room higher when all is said and done, I can definitely see the lower number impacting the FA signings. This is going to be a long week of waiting lol.

Over the Cap has the Bengals at 49 total players and 34.6 mil in cap space after tagging Jessie Bates.

It's pretty much right where it was expected after tagging Bates. Once they cut Waynes, it's back up to around 47m.

Keep in mind that if we sign Jesse to a long term deal it will probably give us more cap space.

Still many open spots for 47m after cutting Wayne's
Corner (+ Depth)
Defensive Tackle (+ Depth)
Tight End
Right Tackle
Offensive Guard (unless they depend on both Smith and Carman)
Wide Receiver Depth
3rd Safety
Punter
Backup QB
I know they can fix some of those in the draft but that 47 mil will disappear fast and considering the Bengals like to roll over 8ish million yearly it could be even less.

When are we expecting cuts to occur?

I've projected them to re-sign Hill, Uzomah, Tupou, Flowers, Morgan, Thomas, Harris, Huber...which I have as total cap hits of around 22m, which would leave about 25m for possibly bringing back guys like Apple, Allen, J Evans and then signing outside guys.
If they decide to sign a C, there's also 6m available by cutting Hopkins to help offset that signing.

Correct, and now the bengals have all the leverage in the world, to negotiate a long term contract.
2022 - 13m
2023 - 15.6m (120% of 22)
2024 - 22.4m (144% of 23)
3 years 51m or 17m a year.
If reports are true he wants 18-20m/year, it would be bad business for the bengals and unwarranted by the player/agents.
A 5 year 75-80m deal, with 51m gtd, would be the absolute most the bengals should offer. This would be 15-16m a year and offer him the same gtd money as 3 franchise tags

-4mil draft cap draft placement and typical 6mil Bengals rollover that leaves them with what 15.5 ish?
Shrank fast lol. I think they can work in two solid outside free agents or one big name.

The cap number came from multiple sources...here is one of them
