Burrow May Not Be Cleared For Preseason

Putting on pads doesn't mean a person is cleared to play.

He could be practicing in pads because that's what he plays in but, like I said, if he can't get hit because of his surgery, then he's not cleared to play.

(I realize he wouldn't get hit in practice anyways, but I'm just making a point.)

Facts don't care about your feelings. BIG THANKS to Holic for creating that gif!

Unless his surgery was actually more complicated than the typical Appendix removal he should be full go.

Looked good in practice today... made several deep throws which tells me he isn't experiencing discomfort.

As someone who's had this surgery in the middle of my soccer season.. I was fine and dandy 2 weeks later and could go full speed and take hits. Yes you do get hit in soccer :)

He would not be out there if he was not able to get hit, quarterback or not.

he’s not on the rehab field, he’s not on the PUP. He doesn’t need cleared for anything else. Not a single coach has said he needs to be “cleared.” He likely won’t play this preseason, but unless he has a set back, it won’t be because of his appendix.

So the sky was in fact…not falling? If you went by some on this board he lost 57 lbs in a week, and had to have a lung removed. :ninja:

I still don't want him any closer to a pre-season game than on the sideline giving interviews.

Now cue the rumors that he's crapping a gallon of blood a day through a hole in his abdomen that they have to spackle shut with Flex Seal every practice.

Calm down, people.

They were out in Cali training earlier in the month.

I'll take the silence to mean you don't know. Which is fine. Nobody does. It hasn't been reported one way or the other.

Likewise, there's no answer for why else Paul Dehner Jr would reach out to the Director of Surgery in Santa Monica, California to get her perspective on this... especially if appendectomies are so routine that, in your own words, you "don't fly somewhere" to get them and they "don't have 'appendix' specialists in different states." Lol right?? Would that not mean she'd have a peer in Ohio who could speak to this? Where Dehner is located? Where the Bengals are located??? Particularly if that's where Joe himself is having the surgery??? Lmaoo

Camp started on July 27 and that's also when he went under the knife. That's all we know. To my knowledge, there's no account of Joe in Cincy at that time. Maybe most notably for me, I remember hearing (I think it was on a news update on the radio?) that Joe was in Cali for it. That's not revisionist history, either. That's literally what prompted my comment in the first place. Bringing it back full circle, nobody's saying he "flew" out there. You're talking to someone who literally had the same procedure done. I took the dirty ol' bus to the ER, and even that felt like I was scaling Mount Everest; had I taken the plane I assume I would have died.

So let's check the know-it-all snark at the door next time lol

I don't want to derail the thread, but has anyone tried the flex seal products they advertise on TV? If so, did they work like advertised?

To keep thread on track, It is good to see Joe back throwing and appearing like he could start today if we had a real game.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Heck yeah, that stuff is great. It's basically aerosol rubber sealant. Works as advertised. I use it on my gutters. I had a buddy that had a bubbler fountain in front of his house that cracked top to bottom. He flex sealed it and it did not leak.

Flex sealed a decent sized hole in my boat. Thing hasn’t sunk on me yet.

Silence to what and what snark?

That was part of my answer that i didn't expand on. A person wouldn't take a plane if they knew they had to have an appendix removed due to the pressurization of an airplane.

I think this is what you were talking about "silence".

I don't know when he got back from training in Cali.

I'd assume that if his procedure would have happened on the day camp started, he would have been in town ready to go with that.

No snark intended. I promise. Mellow

DERAILED!!

Flex seal is great as long as there's no pressure going through it.

But to ensure this thread doesn't get derailed any further. What do folks thing about Jackson Carman?

All good. This many years later and I'm still sensitive when I hear a total stranger try to tell me what appendicitis is and what it prevents you from doing. Even worse when I (falsely) interpret it as know-it-all mockery. It remains a touchy subject lol

Hell, despite the fact I had the thing myself I still don't know the answers to half the questions! It's insane how many armchair doctors have been making pronouncements on Joe's recovery with no background knowledge whatsoever, professional or personal. From all I saw and read, Joe's road back pretty much mirrored my own- yet you still had people worried about "how it must have burst," how the infection spread, how he won't be ready for Week 1, what his dad really meant when he said "it was major," etc. Dear God. The players must absolutely HATE it when we chime in on things we don't understand lol  Gaah

Let’s hope he improves so much we can call him Flex Seal.
