Joey Porter Jr

So we know he is the son of Joey Porter. Joey Porter has had some bad moments with Bengals as a Steeler. He was, of course, on the field wrongly as a coach, which led to a penalty on the Bengals(PacMan), which ended a bad playoff game we lost. He got into a fight with Levi Jones at a casino in Vegas.

Joey Porter Jr has what many people consider 1st round talent at CB. He has nice length at around 6'2 200.

Does the checkered past with Joey Porter matter in consideration of drafting his son? I know it shouldn't, but the history of Joey Porter and the Bengals is like bad blood.

Well the steelers need CB help and will be picking before the Bengals. Of course, they fired his Dad a few years ago but just feels like he'd be better suited there and not here.

Plus, the first round this year really needs to be focused on the line. We missed a prime chance before, at this point they need to replace Jonah.

Gross, if that's the case I'll pass. I wouldn't worry about it. This FO has done a good job of drafting team first players. If he's the guy come draft time, we probably didn't know the kid like we did his dad.

I'm not seeing anything listed in there about his behavior or playstyle that would indicate a "punk ass."
Do you just not think that players should skip a bowl game?
It's not for a National Championship, so I think it's ok to skip to avoid an injury and potentially risking millions of dollars by getting injured and falling in the draft.

This post did not age well. The good news is after he recovered from his injury Jonah has played well. In fact, the entire OL has played much better and I hope they keep getting better each week.

Not shaming him for skipping a bowl game.  Can't blame him a bit for that.  I'm an OSU fan and I had no problem with Wilson and Olave sitting out last year.  Of course, Smith-Njigba and Harrison going for about 500 yard made it easier to take.

I should have been more specific.  Watching him in multiple college games, I have seen him prance, taunt, and complain when he finally gets caught after numerous holding.  A prima donna who would not fit in our CB culture of Mike Hilton, Chido, Apple and CTB.   I do despise his father, so I admit to considerable bias.

He is still the weakest link on the line. And while the play has improved, he would certainly be easy to upgrade.

LT is traditionally the hardest position to actually upgrade given they have to go up against the best pass rushers typically, so I disagree with your comment about Jonah.
The past 3 games, Jonah has only allowed 3 total pressures, 0 of which were sacks.

If the OL continues to play like they have the past few weeks, there's no reason to find an upgrade anywhere for the immediate term.
Instead, focus on upgrading other areas, specifically the pass rush.
There are also some guys who are set to hit FA this coming offseason, so those spots might also need to get prioritized if the players are not re-signed.
Specifically looking at Pratt and Bell, as Awuzie should be back from injury, CTB has filled in quite decently and earning justification for starts next year, and Hill is the heir to Jessie Bates.

If you did want to look at a replacement for Jonah though, here are the notable LTs set to hit FA:
- Orlando Brown (Bengals won't spend that kind of $$ on him, but might be more realistic than trading for Laremy Tunsil)
- Kelvin Beachum (doing well with ARZ but playing RT since 2020, can he still hang at LT?)
- George Fant (played well in 2021 but that's about it. has already allowed 3 sacks and 15 total pressures in just 191 pass block snaps this year)

I think given the caliber of players the Bengals have for depth at OT (Smith and Adeniji), it's wiser to draft someone early to groom behind Williams and Collins for a year (or two) without the pressure of starting right away. That player should be an upgrade over what they currently have at swing tackle.

Good post.  The other thing to consider is that our window is now, before Burrow & Higgins sign extensions. The OL starters are inked for multiple years, save for Jonah, and we already oicked up his option. He is here through next year. 

After next year, some really tough decisions will need to be made. I can see justification for using our high picks on guys we think will help immediately.
