Pro bowl Roster Release
#21
The fact that one of the 5 best teams in the NFL and one on the hottest streak in the AFC only has 3 pro bowlers really is a testament to how amazing this team is. There are only a hand full of "stars" in the traditional sense and I wouldn't even count Hendrickson among those. When I say stars, I mean players that transcend their own team's fandoms. Widely regarded across the NFL as top 3 to top 5 at their position and legitimate game changers at their positions or future hall of famers.

On this team, we have so many good to great players, but Burrow and Chase really are the only super stars the team has. What we have are solid to really good players at nearly every position, especially on defense, along with incredible depth and coaching.

And that is a great sign for future success, in my opinion.

This is an interesting take. If the Pro Bowl selections reflect accuracy of who is legitimately stars in the league-- game changers and future hall of famers -- then the Bengals poor showing in this area would mean the Bengals, being one of the top teams in the league,  have a roster of solid to really good players at nearly every position, and depth and good coaching.  If so, that would bode well for future success, as one could replace much of roster, if necessary economically, and keep the success going.

I'm not sure the Pro Bowl selections are accurate for the Bengals. But reading national commentators list who were snubs and not seeing any list Bengals players (while some mentioned the Eagles had 2 snubs and should have had 10 on the pro bowl, and Chiefs should have had 8 rather than 7), then maybe the Bengals are a team with really good players, but just not many at the top 3 to 5 in their position.

Guys like Reader will always be snubbed because there is no category for NT, only for DT.  So, he is evaluated against guys that are pass rush specialists that have more sacks or TFLs, but don't have near the impact on the overall game as DJ.

I am glad there is such a recognition from (at the very least) local fans and talking heads on how important DJ Reader is to this team.  I think he at least feels the love locally.

Not that I think he's a better kicker, but I can see Tucker getting the most votes because of his longevity. So who the hell are the other kickers that got picked ahead of Shooter?

Daniel Carlson is the only other AFC kicker I can think of who is as good or better than Evan. IDK who 3rd would be. Tyler Bass maybe?
It's easy to see the world in black and white. Grey? I don't know what to do with grey.

It's a shame Peyton and Eli aren't going to have the opportunity to coach or hang out with Burrow.

If you don't think making the Pro Bowl team doesn't mean anything to players watch this....and yes I know its from Washington...hang on until the player at the 1:22 mark

Daniel Carlson should be the #1 kicker.

Reader missed a lot of games. He got hurt early in Week 3 and didn't come back until Week 11.

LB is tough. If you're not a pass rushing LB, you better be one of the best 3 down ILBs in the league, and Pratt is a 2 down non-pass-rushing LB. I don't think those guys are ever going to the Pro Bowl.

Pleseantly surprised that Hendrickson got in. He has more name recognition after last year, but I would have guessed Hubbard over Hendrickson. Glad one of them made it.

He might not rush the passer but he’s been elite in coverage this season.

TJ Watt missed more games and still made it

Players on more popular teams and/or who have put up good stats in the past are more typically going to get the nod over someone who might be more deserving but less noticed.

Alex Highsmith has 11.0 sacks and Josh Uche has 10.5 sacks, which are more than TJ Watt, Khalil Mack, and Hendrickson, but they all got the nod over them both.
People are more likely to pick "what have you done in your career" vs "what have you done this season" a lot of the time.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Well he did miss a small chunk of the season, but then again so did Chase.

I'm not hacking on Bates, as I am not as down on him as some are, but what exactly has he done this season to be named to the Pro Bowl. He
s been ok, and has a couple of interceptions, but he is far from playing like Playoff Jesse.
