The Bengals are expected to roll over about $2.5 million to next years adjusted salalry cap. That puts us squarely in the middle of the pack. The Browns didn't spend $27 million which will cover half of Deshaun Watson's cap hit next season.

The Bengals benefitted by a relatively healthy team that didn't need to add to the roster during the season

NFL teams recently declared unused 2022 cap space rollover amounts (below).

After the playoffs, the NFL will audit incentives, bonuses, etc by team. That figure will be added/subtracted to the number below.

Well, it looks like OTC was more accurate than spotrac on iur remaining space. I bash OTC because they have ys at $48 mil for next year, which would mean a cap of almost $230 million. But I should stop it, other than that, they seem on the money.

Spotrac also has $47.8 mill listed for 2023 cap space before extensions, FA, and the draft.
So it's the exact same as OTC.

Spotrac has the expected cap before adjustment at $225 mill.
That would be an increase of ~$17 mill compared to the 2022 cap of $208.2 mill before adjustment.

Realistically, that cap is going to get eaten up pretty quickly with internal guys about to hit FA.
So we're either going to see very few impactful outside guys signed, or we'll see some internal FAs go elsewhere and an outside guy is brought in to replace.
Think WJ3 leaving and Awuzie brought in as replacement.

Earlier this season, spiteac was using $220 at the cap for 2023, and most reports had it there. Might have even been $218. A jump from $218 to $225 plus $2.5 in rollover nets around $10 mil. 

Still, as you say, that # largely an illusion.  We'll keep $5-$10 mil of padding for in-season injuries/additions. And with only 41 guys signed, and multiple starters to re-sign or replace, that cash is gonna get eaten up fast. Assuming Bates goes (we could tag him again), Bell, Pratt, Hurst, and Apple are all gonna command decent $$$. Perine, too. If Sharping plays well, him, too.

Hopefully our scouts are working lots of OT because we will need to snag a couple gems in the draft while picking late. The challenge of becoming a winning franchise with coaches that actually enhance players skills and capabilities while putting them in the best situations is they play well and will get paid. We will need to draft very well while keeping the core intact.

All 4 of them, of which 1 is the director of pro scouting.

An illusion, 38 million in cap space to spend not counting possible cuts (Wilson for 2 million with no dead cap). 40 million is a lot of money in cap space because teams can bank on cap rising so they do like contract like R. Smith just got, average of 20 million a year, but only 9 million cap hit in year one.

Bengals have managed the cap well, yes challenges are coming, but I think they will be fine in 2023. We have a lot of solid players, but not all pro players who can demand huge dollars in 2023.
