I don’t know that I’ve seen a player like EDLC for the Reds since I was a kid with Eric Davis. He might just be the most entertaining man in baseball right now.

Well, along with Ohtani.

Luke Weaver posts a 13.50 ERA game and we win again.

This has gone beyond a statistical improbability.

I think Weaver may have made a deal with the devil.

Just watched a 45 sec clip of his single and three steals on ESPN.  Man hei s fun to watch.  I too grew up watching Eric Davis, and during his first couple of years he too was stealing bases like crazy, but that settled down due to potential injury.  But DLC is really something different.  The whole team attitude changed.  The boys are having fun.  It's clear there's something special with the team and it starts with DLC.  I really hope Votto is enjoying himself since he's at the end and he's been there for the Reds forever.

I remember looking up our payroll numbers back in the winter, don't remember exactly but we were way down the list of highest team payroll even with Votto.

I'm with the poster who said pull an Atlanta and get some of these young guys locked up now. DLC, McClain, Steer. Their price is only going to keep climbing, most likely.

Yep ThumbsUp

I think it was Vinyl a month or so ago that was talking about how good he is. He knows how to keep it fun even when it's not going well.

Who woulda thunk the Reds would be the hottest ticket in baseball this season?

I went back and looked through some of the earlier threads and saw some interesting quotes . . . see if you can pick out any of yours. Some of our predictions were accurate . . . others not so much. I recently said "Votto is done and looks like he has no answers". It's amazing how fast things can change. Enjoy . . .

----------
What is your opinion of the Reds Opening Day lineup? I'm not impressed at all. Would be surprised if we beat the Pirates. I'm hoping we struck gold in some new players and recent players. Going to be a long season I'm afraid.
Here is the projected lineup:
Reds:
Jonathan India, 2B
Jake Fraley, DH
Wil Myers, RF
Tyler Stephenson, C
Spencer Steer, 3B
TJ Friedl, LF
Jason Vosler, 1B
Jose Barrero, SS
Will Benson, CF
SP: Hunter Greene, RHP
CL: Alexis Díaz, RHP
---------
I'm hoping Overton has a good game today. IIRC he had some decent outings last season. We really need this pitching staff to take the next step. I'm talking to you Greene.
---------
Well, another walkoff loss by the Reds tonight. We just can't close out games. That's 2 this week. Not that I expect too much.
---------
I don't labor under any delusion that this is a good team. With that out of the way, how shitty would it be to look back at the 2023 Reds and see that they lost 20-30 games due to blown leads when the bullpen takes over?
---------
That bullpen is, again, made up of has-beens, never-weres, and bed shitters. I feel like this offense is gonna score some runs this year, and had the front office actually went out and improved our yearly weakest link, we COULD contend.
---------
Reds crawl back home after a horrible road trip, which many National League East road trips are.
---------
Kevin once again I admire your enthusiasm. But this is in essence a triple A team with a few "decent players" They have no chance to contend this season, none.
---------
[Image: major-league-still-shitty.gif]
---------
Couldn't think of anything more predictable than the Reds getting blown out the day after winning 12-0. Cessa is going to kill the already crappy bullpen, 3.2 IP last start, 3.0 IP this start.
---------
Andrew Abbott is 23 and was a second round pick in 2021. He pitches in AA. So far, in 10 innings he has allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and has struck out 25. The 'Cowboy' was mentioning him yesterday on the radio.
---------
I hope they bring him up. They can't survive much more of Cessa. I have no delusions that this team is in any way a contender. But I would like to see a team playing some competitive baseball. I'd be happy around .500 Hell I might even go catch a game?
---------
Granted it was cold but that place was empty yesterday.
---------
Well it's 6 loses in a row and only 2 wins in last 10. Greene pitched a good game but the offense has checked out. Total of 6 runs during this skid and have been shut out three times. They're already 8.5 games out and it's not even end of April. Going to be another long summer.
---------
This offense sucks. Call up the young guns (EDLC, CES, McClain) by mid May because this is painful to watch.
---------
Yes, who cares about starting their clock for service time and the such. Give the fans something to follow.
---------
Yay! One in a row! The bullpen has been pretty solid their last couple of games. Glad that they DFA'd Vosler and brought up Ramos' hot bat from Louisville. Votto should be back after a second rehab assignment so hopefully the offense gets a bit of a boost.
---------
2 wins in a row against the hot Rangers. Win 'em anyway you can. Maybe a sweep is in order. That would be nice.
---------
SENZEL WALKOFF 2 RUN HR!!!!!!!!!!! REDS SWEEP!!!!!!!
--------- April - 12 W - 16 L --------- 4th place - 7.5 games back
Reds are only 5.5 games out of 1st place thanks in part to the Pirates and Brewers both on current 6 game losing streaks.
---------
Ashcraft looked unhittable all season to this point. Apparently, he was due for a horrific start haha.
---------
Friedl is quietly looking like a very solid CF option for the next couple years.
---------
On days when our new “ace” pitches, the offense takes the day off. Gonna be strange seeing a sub 3.00 ERA pitcher with twenty losses by season’s end.
---------
The offense seems decent at manufacturing runs and small ball. If the kids come up and can make the adjustment to the majors, they'll have power to go with it.
---------
The Reds now go on the road, and the Reds are AWFUL on the road. They do OK in Cincy, but AWFUL on the road.
---------
Matt McLain gets the call up from Louisville. He has been playing 2B but is likely going to play shortstop.
---------
1 for 4, 2 runs scored with a hustle double and a walk. He looks like a baseball player.
---------
This game went to hell fast. Reds had a 5-0 lead through the 4th and give up 11 runs over the next 2 innings.
---------
They're 19-27 now but still only 5 games out. Their next 4 are at home vs. a hot Cardinals team. Lets hope the Cards are due a cool off. Then it's Cubs on the road. I'm just hoping they don't end May at 10 games out.
---------
I really like Weaver but he's probably going to be a starter on another team by next season.
---------
ESPN just updated their top 50 prospect rankings, and Elly De La Cruz is now the #1 prospect in baseball (according to ESPN).
---------
This team (not this ownership) has surprised the heck out of me.  They are a lot of fun to watch.  I am not nearly as apathetic as I thought I would be
---------
Reds win 8-5 and move into 3rd place in the division 4 games out of first. Could be short lived depending on the Cards who are up 2-1 in the 10th.
EDIT: Cards win and are in 3rd by % points and Reds in 4th.
---------
Does anybody really want Joey Votto back at this point? Steer and Stephenson are playing just fine at first base and I'm more interested in watching both of them bat than I am about watching Votto.
---------
I like RF for EDLC.  A player with his tall, lanky build might take a beating in the infield.
---------
Takes a good arm for right. Does he have that?
---------
The Reds are only 4 games out of first place in the division. Maybe this is our year. The hitting and pitching seem to be coming around.
---------
Barrero with his first career grand slam!!! Reds up 8-0 in the 7th!
---------
Reds hang on to win 9-8. Should never have had to be that stressful.
---------
I'm much more into this season than I figured I'd be. I thought we'd be 12 games out by now, we're 3. These young players are hungry and there's more coming up the pike. I don't know the plan with Dela Cruz and the others but I hope they bring them up soon. Screw that control crap!! Give us something to cheer for.
---------
McLain's success early on may actually make De La Cruz's eventual debut underwhelming by comparison because we can't reasonably expect him to be that good to start as well (or can we?... :) )
--------- May - 14 W - 13 L --------- 26-29 - 3rd place - 3 games back
Well no sweep thanks to Herget. Man what a meltdown. Doesn't help either that Greene got no run support once again.
---------
Come home to start a 4 game series against a division rival you're just 3 back of and now are one step away from being swept. SMFH.
---------
They had their chances in the first game. Then Ashcraft got pounded early yesterday or perhaps that would have been a win as well ? Today the offense never got off the bus. I don't know ? I'm starting to lose heart again. As I've said a dozen times already this season. I have no illusions this is a true contender. But I would like to see some competitive baseball. And what really sucks the Dodgers are next.
---------
Reds salvage the final game winning 2-0. Abbott gets his first MLB W!!!
---------
He just got called up
---------
Down 8-3 and walk off 9-8!!! What a win!!!!!! Fraley took a 96mph pitch off the wrist to tie it. Hopefully it's nothing serious. They just said Dodgers were 34-0 when leading in the 9th or later.
---------
Elly with his first bomb 458ft!!!!!!
---------
That ball was crushed!! damn near left the park, WOW
---------
Cycle watch is on. McLain with a single and triple, Elly with a homer and triple. This might finally happen tonight.
---------
BENSON WALK OFF HOMER!!!!!!!!!
---------
They did it again. This team is just electric right now
---------
About a month ago, out of the blue, my wife said "we're not interested in going to a Reds game this year are we?" and i said nope, not at all. Last night i was sitting there and i said "you know what, we actually may need to get to a Reds game or two this year" because of the young talent and how exciting they look to possibly be.
---------
If you would have asked me 3 weeks ago are you going to a Reds game this season I would have been like  Hilarious Now I'm probably going to catch a couple or maybe more?
---------
Strange thing is, even minus the rebuild, they'd have McClain, Abbott, and De la Cruz.  The only real rebuild guy on the roster now is Steer.  The true impact of the rebuild has not yet made it to MLB.
---------
Well we're 29-34, five games down in the loss column. Heading into a 9 game road trip. Three each vs a so-so Cardinals, then a just bad Royals team, then ending with a very good Astros team. We really need to make hay in the first two series because the Astros are tough. Come on Reds sweep the Royals.
---------
I thought it would be impossible, but Elly De La Cruz has actually exceeded my expectations in his first week in the majors. I thought that McLain had placed the bar too high but, somehow, EDLC's speed has been even more impressive. He is truly incredible.
---------
Don't know why in the hell you bring Karcher in for his MLB debut in that situation but thankfully it miraculously worked out.
---------
Such a shame that the Reds ruined Chiefs night in Kansas City, but they will get used to disappointment when Cincinnati comes to town. And look at Benson now hitting .234. When the season started, Benson looked like he was trying out this new game that he had just heard about called baseball. Now, he's getting some seriously hard contact.
---------
I'm starting to get mildly concerned about DLC. He was electric his first 3 or 4 games, to say the least. Since then he just doesn't look confident at the plate. Don't get me wrong, I still believe he's a bolt of lightning as a prospect. But perhaps he needs a couple days off? Maybe he's feeling too much pressure?
---------
Reds are now just 1/2 a game out of first with the Brewers beating the Pirates. Brewers in first at 35-34, Reds are 35-35, and Pirates are 34-34.
---------
Six game winning streak, all on the road, and that's part of them being a combined 11-2 on their last road trip and this current one.
---------
Get the broom out. Reds are on fire, damn
---------
Votto can play DH for a while and hopefully he will hit. I just hope it isn't a step backward for this team.
---------
Well, I wish Votto well for us but glad he is batting 6th and not higher in the lineup.  This team likes to run and Joey will just clog the bases up.
---------
Votto with a homer!!!!
---------
He hammered that ball.  It was so awesome to watch the reaction in that stadium.
---------
Reds win their 9th in a row!!!!! Reds are about to be in first!!! Diaz sure pulled his own ass out of the fire.
---------
It's official Reds are in first place!!!!!!!
---------
This is wild to watch. I thought for sure we'd be last place by now.
---------
Reds won again, almost had a heart attack at the end
---------
Well the win steak was fun while it lasted. I know it's only the first but it would truly be a miracle if they came back.
---------
Uh oh Elly needs a triple for the cycle.
---------
Umm he got it, just WOW! DLC is just in a league of his own, he just blows your mind
---------
ELLY DE LA CYCLE!!!!!
---------
12 IN A ROW!!!!!
--------- June - 18 W - 9 L --------- 44-38 - 1st place - 1 game lead
Only users lose drugs.

Damn shame that bottom of first didn't go 1-2-3. Yelich ball should have been caught to begin with but even worse giving up a 2 out RBI single to a guy hitting less than .200.
