PFF OL Grades Through Preseason So Far
#41

I've thought Carman has looked like our best Olineman this year, but I'm seeing folks put Adeniji and even Smith above him.

Carman has looked fine at LT. He did not look good at RT.

I too would stand by Carman over Smith and Adeniji except he seems to only be able to play on the left side, maybe just LT.

Bengals want (and need) someone who can play both OT spots.
I'm not confident in Smith or Adeniji being able to play "well," but they seem to be more versatile than Carman.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

0 sacks boys. Can we keep that cup through the regular season?

I think they ought to make Carman a FB/TE. I think he really would maul people in that role. I think Ford will be cut.

I didn't add Nate Gilliam, mainly because I didn't think there was a possibility he would make the team.
But here's his PFF grade:

Overall - 61.5
Pass Block - 71.3
Run Block - 55.6
1 total pressure allowed
0 sacks
0 penalties
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season

Is that for extended action, or just late game work?  Did they give any snap count info?

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

52 offensive snaps played.
I don't know exactly when during the games it was, but I thought he was coming in later in the games.

Thanks, those are still decent numbers for a back of the roster prospect.

Gilliam came in late in the Packers game but looked good. I didnt notice him out there against Atlanta so I dont know how much he played. After the Packers game I was hoping to see more of him against better competition to see how well he plays. He plays Center and Right Guard which are two spots we could use help with at the backup positions. Im guessing Gilliam, Brown and Kirkland might all have a chance for the practice squad but who knows. His PFF grade is pretty good for the time he has been out there.

Decent article regarding all of this. Seems like the Atlanta game was better for everyone.

PFF had him tagged all at LG and C for all snaps. 0 snaps at RG.

That's just more of Pollack's stupid crap switching guys all over.  Coming out of college Gilliam was 3rd team all ACC at RG.

Fair point.

Here's been his distribution in previous preseasons:

2021 - all at Center
2022 - all at RG

Maybe Pollack feels confident enough in Gilliam at RG that he just wanted to see how he'd do at C and LG. Honestly, I dunno how that man decides where to put guys lol.

I saw Gilliam get manhandled on one play by a Falcons DL. Saw the same with Kirkland as well.

I don't ever like seeing my OL get manhandled. Glad Gilliam's numbers look decent but it was against 3rd or 4th stringers.

Very true.  It is hard to judge some of these guys when many of the other guys they go up against are backups or wont even make the team.

I noticed Carman was the RT for the first series and later I saw he was at LT. I wonder how he did respectively in the two different positions.

I don't believe I have a way to drill down that far, unfortunately.
