Pretty sure Mo Egger reads these boards. He just said something to the effect of the bengals eeking out a win the next two weeks and this would be the team we thought it was.

Much as I was unhappy with what happened the task is simple - win the next two. Doesn't matter how - win the next two and go into the bye 3-3. If they can pull that off they can come out of the bye and hopefully make a run from a starting point of .500.

I dont know that it ties to reality that much. But, making a SB and a championship game in the past 2 years has weight.

I think this team just needs to get to the playoffs and they've proven to be dangerous. We did lose some defense and it has struggled thus far. But if we can hang around somewhat and get Burrow healthy along the way than we could sneak in the playoffs. Then out odds would be about right. So maybe the odds are that Burrow will return to form more than anything else.

I know this season hasn’t started the way we all hoped. We are essentially in a mid-season playoffs, right now. The first four weeks are behind us and there is a LONG way to go. However if this team can eke out two wins (visually: good, bad, meh) they will get a bye week, and then have 11 weeks to go over .500, 6-5 or better, and be in the mix.

Reasons why not to give up on this team:
1) Burrow has to be getting healthier. It’s been a while since his initial injury.
2) We have faced 3 of the top 8 scoring against defenses, we lost all 3. To put it in perspective, cardinals give up 7.5 more points per game than the lowest of the top 3, titans at 17.5.
3) all four teams we have played are giving up less than 300 ypg, all top 12 and two of the top 3.
4) AFCN is decimated with injuries. In fact the bengals may be in the best shape, burrow not with standing.

Reasons for concern:
1) play calling, it has to get better on both sides.
2) burrows mental struggle. we have seen him overcome this before. I’m hoping that it’s a UCF type hit/taunt/moment to burrow that wakes him up. If you don’t know what I’m talking, watch what he did after the hit/pick 6. 3) team moral, but this is solved with going 2-0.

Long story short, if we come out of the next two weeks 2-0, which is possible, it would have required us to overcome the concerns. If we are sitting at 3-3 before the bye, this team will be what we thought before the season . The only thing most likely out of reach is the 1 seed at this point.

This isn’t a 13 week season anymore, it’s really a 2 week, must win, mid-season playoffs.

The second bullet for reason for concern, burrows mental struggle. It was this play yesterday that, for me, helped propel burrow forward.

Well, the bengals pulled out their mid season playoffs 2-0. They are back in this thing and if they can go over .500 the rest of the way, they are very much alive. Burrow will get healthier the next two weeks and hopefully the defense gets in a groove. 49ers are beatable…

the success of our first explosive offense in the 21st century, while short lived, was with Carson TJ-85 and Henry... THey were a high scoring offense because TJ was efficiently used and moved the chains.... Marvin had many faults, but him and his OC knew how to utilize that 4 man talent, fast forward to today, with the same formula and Callahan and Zac struggle to score.... their state of thought must be, we have this talent, therefore, we just do simple routes and let them do their magic... which, unfortunately, as talented as they are, they don't click as well as Carson and company. You knew that as soon as the oppossing team scored, Carson and Co. wasted not time in putting 7 on the score, if only they had the D we have now.

Idk, that was the magical 2005 season. Also that team led the league in turnovers, IIRC. The difference was jones, Williams, Brahm, Steinbach and Anderson. Palmer was never 05 Palmer once Brahm went down week 2 2006 and the OL aged/FA with steinbach. At least with the bengals anyway.

Bengals did pretty good yesterday in not struggling to score. 31 and they left 10 points out there.
