Don't you know, it's a NFL "STANDARD", that when players reach 30, you terminate them?   Ninja

If he joins Shitsburgh, I'm fine with it. [Image: 2443cc5e97dbee996a6004187478a3cb.jpg]

I don't think Tyler would be able to return punts as well as Charles de Sixxle, but I do think de Sixxle would be able to get open and convert better than de Boyd.

Boyd won't be 30 until mid November of the 2024 season.

Tampa receiver Mike Evans turned 30 last August before putting up 1,255 yards and 13 regular season TDs in 2023.

Randy Moss had 1,493 yards and 23 TDs at age 30.

Brandon Marshall 1,502 yards and 14 TDs at age 31.

Mushin Muhammad 1,405 yards and 16 TDs at age 31.

I guess that you see Mike Evans as being a CLOWN signing next year by any Team that signs him when he becomes 31 ?

Boyd can be the 2 if they find a top 15 tight end, and a number 3 receiver who is nearly as good as Boyd

I agree and only for a season or two at most.

Part of my reason for this Thread was that many Fans assume that it will be Chase & TEE as Bengals in 2024

with Boyd being gone as the odd man out.

What if it ends up being Chase & Boyd as Bengals in 2024 and TEE gets Traded as the odd man out ?

I simply would not be that surprised if Boyd is back and TEE is gone in 2024 if it happened.

May be much smaller odds of it happening that way (surprising many people) but would it really be that odd if happened ?

Those players are all better than Boyd by a lot. They all have more receiving yards than Chad Johnson and aj green. Bad comps, in my opinion.

They were not Comps of talent

Just Comps of the Age being the Standard to move on from a receiver.

Players that had some of their best seasons at age 30 or older.

A different way to look at it is if Boyd turns 30 next Mid November 2024 can he put up a solid season

nearing some of the best numbers of his career like many other receivers have ?

Boyd's best seasons were 1,046 yards and 1,028 yards.

Would turning 30 mid November 2024 keep him from getting close to those career best numbers if he is a #2 ?

*By the way - TEE's best seasons are 1,091 and 1,029 yards.

Last year, they were close with Engram and Hurst, who were projected at 14m and 8.5 per year, and ended up getting 13.7 and 7.25.

But, were way off on others. Schultz was projected at 14m and got 6.25. Gesicki was projected at 11m, got 4.5. Hooper was projected at 8.5, got 2.75.

I think a lot of that had to do with how good of a TE draft it was last year where as this year, from what I've heard, outside of Bowers it's one of the worst position groups.

I would not be surprised if Boyd rose to the occasion and put up a 1,000 yard season in the #2 role.

My Vote is 801 to 900.

Would it be far fetched for the Bengals to use Boyd to help Bridge through a 2024 Trade of Tee ?

Still bring in a high round rookie but transition with Boyd at #2 for a while if needed ?

Based on Boyd's yards/target from this year, it would take 132 Targets to get him to 900 yards.  He actually got more targets this year than he did in the previous two years.  He just sucked.  His production has fallen off a cliff the past couple of years.

Beyond that, he was never an effective boundary WR, even in his prime.

Guys like Cheetah were freak athletes coming out of college.  As they age and lose a bit of that athletic ability, they're still better athletes than most.  Boyd was below average as an athlete from jump street.  As he's aged, he just looks like an old man out there.

Well Fant should come cheaper as a TE, has not lived up to his 1st round pick but decent TE receiving not a very good blocker for sure.

Blocking isn't a strength, but he can play in-line as well as move/slot/H-back.

The other big thing he brings is that he's a big threat on seam routes, which we haven't had since CJ.  Having him to keep S's honest will open up more explosive plays downfield.

He struggled in Denver with pass pro, but has made significant strides in Seattle...posting a 54.9 grade in '23 and 72.9 last season.

Boyd averaged 6.8 yards/target this year.  That was 93rd out of 139 qualifying players.  To put that in perspective, there were 23 qualifying TE's who did better.

We aren't talking a former All Pro who's still putting up 1000 yard seasons.  We're talking about a guy 4 years removed from his last 1000 yard season who has been steadily declining.

And he’s not even sure handed any more. The drops against the Rams, Chiefs, and Texans were all about as bad as it gets.

Boyd has mentally checked out from Cincinnati and I believe he's done.... at least here. He may get a new contract somewhere else but I don't expect him to do much. As someone else said, he looks slow and he's no longer sure handed.

To put it in further perspective, Chase was 40th and there were 4 TEs and 1 RB who did better. That is a problem with the offense itself, not with any singular player.

Boyd was at 9.3 yards per target in 2022 and 8.8 yards per target in 2021.

Even further perspective would be that he was 7th on the team in yards/target and only 5th best among the WR group.  So, no matter how much blame you want to assign to the offense, he was relatively bad in the offense compared to his peers.

Could happen, as i stated he has underperformed relative to his draft and he was a lower ranked starting TE past two years, Hudson who played over 60% less time at the position had overall similar stats as Fant and for those that believe in PFF as a strong measure, Hudson finished higher than him. So unless the asking price is a good one I don;t think we should invest to much in him since I see Hudson competing for the starting job anyway.
